Can disable DSC completely, has EDC and has three different engine maps, and also 2 steering settings via M-Drive option, and less than 3500lbs. I am not sure what else once could ask? It's going to be a screamer and will continue the nice tradition of high-rpm F1-sounding engines...Love it
Exterior needs the 19's and either grey, black or white and minimal gadgets to save weight and this time 6-spd manual for sure, i gotta shift no more smg for this guy. I will wait for year 2 if i can, got burned with the e60M5 with smg shenanigans, bmw seems sometimes slow at addressing some of their M-car issues.
Overall i like it and am glad they are going to low weight, would have obviously been happier at 3300 lbs but i guess that's where the CSL will be at a premium.
Life is good...Back to work to afford all this junk....

They are the official press pictures from BMW. What's your point?

I just cant believe this freaking power button.......

People buy these cars for their MAXIMUM power primarily...why not start out with the full power and change the damn buttons name and function to "economy/comfort/whatever" so you decrease power at he push of a button...

I just dont get it...If I would take over BMW tomorrow (sweet dreams) I would fire the person who came up with that idea as well as everyone else who approved it....

Ohh...I forgot to comment on the car....I dont like how it looks.....on the other hand I said the same about the E60 when it was released so it might grow on me....probably a nice drivers car anyway

It still could be, but BMW does not want to make it look faster than the E60 M5.

My friend, the POWER button is the greatest invention from BMW GmbH, equally, if not more so, than the 500hp motor under our hoods.

Imagine a car review / tv show / magazine stating the following: "When I started the M5, I immediately pushed the ECONOMY button and started driving around. .... the diesel sounding idle... the I-Drive.... the clunky SMG.... the 272(?) different settings... it's so complicated.......................but once I took the car out of ECONOMY MODE!!!! VROOOOM!. It became alive.... nothing else seems to matter.... that 500 hp has been RE-unleashed"

In other words, great gimmick and maketing to sell cars and draw attention, that POWER button.

Could not disagree more, the P400 mode is very important when driving on ice and in and around the city; simliarly it sounds like the M3 will have three maps for the throttle probably accessible by the Power button and these will each have a use. I disagree with both of you.

I never said that P400 mode doesn't serve a purpose. It is more logical to have the default at P500 and a SNOW/ECONOMY button for those special times. However, I believe it was made the other way for marketing (or EPA) purposes.

I like the power button. It lets me properly warm up my car (P400, S3) and then, at the hit of a button, go right to my favorite settings. I do agree, however, that we should be able to change (in iDrive preferably) what the start up settings are.

This above statements could be true......if THE NORTHPOLE was BMWs biggest market...

The 400 mode is important but not that many months a year....Who on the earth would buy an M5 and once a month say "ohhh...I fel a little bad today...lets press the power button"......you want those 500 immediatelly...

But I assume you might be one of the above examples...me and most other M5 owners start up the car, choose smg and press the power button....
