Whats everyones thoughts on the way a CSL will depreciate?

Just wondering, there will be a limited number coming into the UK, about 500 i think, will they be a good investment...how much would they lose in a year? A couple of grand? Or nothing at all?Im even thinking the CSL could appreciate with value....

Any comments..

all the best

Doubtful. 500 is a pretty large production number for the UK. I believe 200 911 Turbos are earmarked for the UK every year? Pretty sure those depreciated quite fast as well.

Considers cars like the F40 or F5had less than a 1000 produced worldwide and it still depreciated, though prices have stabilized at least for the time being.

Hi Adam,

In my modest opinion it will be a very good investment in personal joy! But from the financial point of view... I have some doubts it will command significant premiums in the future, I`d rather think it will slowly depreciate.

It seems that the racing pedigree and the limited scale of production play a major role in increasing the value of a special edition model and as far as I know (please correct me if I am worng) the e46 Csl has no racing history for the time being. Probably the street M3 GTR is more the case and could be intended more as a pure investment.

Csl is a great car, I just don`t get the fact they skipped on the aircon

Best regards
Alex

I agree with you Alex. Even GT3 and GT2 have air con. For today's standarts it is not acceptable. There should be other air con. not as powerful as the ones on regular M3; put that with a lighter, weaker and smaller air con. compressor. I heard that air con. will be extra but don't know for sure.

On the other hand, in 1995, BMW made 120 examples of E36 M3 LTW for US market which was around 100 kg lighter; no air con., no stereo, no leather, alum. doors, M-strut brace, X-brace, euro spec oil pump and so on. The engines were standart 240 hp but hand pick.
Some of them even weren't sold when new. Evenif the price was higher than regular E36 M3, they were sold less than that price when new. Consider that US has the 50% of M market, and there are LOTS of track junkies. Without air con. it is hard to sell these things.
I know that M3 CSL is superior and a great car.
We'll see.

At the moment if you bought an m3 in late 01, put on a nice amount of miles..10k...you could sell it for a little under list price now, that is good..very good imho. With the CSL, limited edition, track orientated..which is becoming very popular over here, it could be a winner, however the market, war etc are all making predictions difficult to say the least, and its a lot of money.

all the best

In the US the M3 isn't holding up terribly well, but a lot better than some other cars of a similar nature...

Wow, I'm a mod for this forum now
