What Material is the Bumper on an '03 Made of - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

The bumper on my '03 M3 looks like it's made of "carbon fiber" or some kind of composite material. Does anyone know what it actually is?

After scratching my front end of my front bumper, I took my car to my bodyshop and my technican told me that it is a plastic material, soft and very elastic; also very light which is nice.
However I'm sure that it is not carbon.

I believe the material used to make BMW bumpers is called: Reinforced Reaction Injection Molded or RRIM plastic.

For sure as Onur said, it's not carbon fiber (it's very very expesive).

carbon fibre also won't pass crash tests in the US for the most part...that's why we're not gonna see the CSL.

All,
Sorry I was gone when you people posted, but the material in my bumper looks like carbon fiber, not the same plastic like the bumper cover is made of. I actually have both of the old pieces in my basement. I wish I could post a pic of the bumper--the pattern on it is light and dark gray checks and does not mount to any shock absorbers in the stanchion openings--it's only bolted on. I'll have to check further to see if I can find any more info.
