V1 Rear View Mirror Group Buy Now Available

Sufficient testing in the E39/E60 M5 and E63 M6 has been concluded and we are excited to offer the Valentine 1 Concealed Display Rear View Mirror Integration to M5board members. If you are not familiar with the mod, we install the V1 Concealed Display accessory inside the rear view mirror - and provide instructions for hiding the main V1 radar detector inside the headliner.

Benefits to the V1 Rear View Mirror include:

Full Valentine 1 protection available with stealth integration
Theft Prevention - with the V1 hidden inside the headliner it will remain out of reach to potential thieves
Ticket Avoidance - in addition to the protection offered by the Valentine 1 radar detector, in the event you are pulled over by law enforcement your odds of receiving a ticket may be reduced if a radar unit is not visible
Coolness Factor - This mod is very cool - everyone likes to be cool.

Integrating the V1 Concealed Display into the rear view mirror isn't a new idea, what makes our mirror unique is unlike previous versions that etch the silvering off the back of the mirror - leaving a permanent template of the entire display area - we utilize a custom fabricated one way mirror that lets you see the V1 display when it's on and restores 100% of the mirror surface when it's off.

Please be aware that replacing the oem glass removes auto dimming from the rear view mirror. The glass we're using is slightly less reflective than the oem mirror - so far no one has missed the auto dim function. The side mirrors will retain auto dimming. The M5 and M6 that were used for testing both had the High Beam Assistant option and this feature will not be affected, Homelink also remains fully functional.

Installing the main V1 unit inside the headliner does not adversely affect radar detection - as long as there is not metal obstructing the radar sensors it will work perfectly. Laser detection requires full visibility to the sensor. Retaining laser detection will require installing a small window in the front of your headliner. So far all but one individual that has installed the mirror has opted not to worry about the laser detection. I have seen the radar unit installed on the rear deck in other applications and this could be an option as well, although we have not yet tested this configuration.

The V1 will easily fit inside the M6 headliner with room to spare, it is a tighter fit in the E60 M5. Installation in the M5 requires removing the V1's casing and a small modification to the oem maplight. If you own a M5 please ship your map light with your mirror and I will take care of the mod for you. Instructions for removing the mirror and map light are available HERE.

The normal fee for the V1 mirror integration is $499. We are offering this exclusively to M5Board members via group buy at an introductory rate of $399 + shipping. The group buy and introductory rate will be limited to the first 10 paid orders. The $399 does not include the Valentine 1 Radar Detector and V1 Concealed Display (required). If you do not already own a V1 Concealed Display we will provide one for your mirror at cost - $39.

While not required, it is recommended that you also purchase the V1 Remote Audio Adapter. The Remote Audio Adapter will allow you to turn the unit on/off and adjust the volume/mute levels without having to access the main unit inside the headliner. The Remote Audio Adapter is available for $49.

Please contact me via PM or at scott@dfwautoclub.com to confirm the details of your order and I will provide you with our shipping address and payment options. You ship us your mirror, map light (E60 M5 owners only) and concealed display if you already own one. Once we receive your mirror the retrofit will be completed (generally within 2 - 3 days) and shipped back to you for installation.

There were some issues with my mirror because I have the Auto High Beam assist option. He worked them out and the mirror works perfectly. The visibility even during super bright 105 degree days here in Texas is perfect. I would simply say this is a PERFECT setup. No one even knows you have a radar detector unless you tell them or they hear the alert. And unlike the etched mirrors, if the radar unit is switched off, you see ABSOLUTELY nothing because of the design. The radar sensitivity is exactly the same as before even though the unit is mounted in the headliner. I tested with a known quantity Kband speed sign near my house and sensitivity level was exactly the same. Front, rear, side, none were affected by the install. Again, my hat's off to RaceMX for a phenomenal job and a fantastic product. Thank you, sir.

Can you provide some pics of the full install that shows the mods required to install the unit in the headliner for the m5? Also, how much to do the full install?

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

Sure, I'll drop by and get some pics of the M5 asap. There's not much to the install, for anyone in my area that wants help just let me know and I will do it for free.

Does this negate the rear facing portion of the detector? You only getting front coverage with the location of the actual detector in the headliner?

The owner of the M5 was experiencing some interference from the map light, which was affecting the forward radar - the rear works fine. We have since relocated the V1 to the rear center headrest and this appears to be the ideal location for a E39 M5, as well as current gen E9X BMW's.
