New Lotus Elise SC feels the wrath of M Coupe

Lotus claims 0-60 mph in 4.6sec. Please...! From standstill the Z4 M Coupe pulled half a car length in 1st gear, then extended to about 1.5 car lengths after 2nd gear. The Lotus held the gap pretty well in 3rd and 4th but the Z4MC was clearly moving further and further.

1st, 2nd and 3rd gear rolling races were also performed. The Z4MC would quickly pull about a car length ahead and slowly keep building a bigger distance between the two cars.

Not sure if the semi-slick tyres are helping with the launch from standstill but this Z4MC is really impressive off the mark! (see "Z4 M Coupe vs 2008 STi" thread for video footage)

Does anyone here believe the Elise SC is a car designed for drag racing?

Take both cars to a real race track and see which car 'pulls' on the other.

Comments like this just make me laugh. No one said they believe the Elise SC was designed for drag racing. All i said was that Lotus claim 0 - 60 time of 4.6 sec and it got whipped by a car that has an acceleration claim slower than that.

Recent Car & Driver had their 'Track Meat' and the Lotus did not fare very well. It was near the bottom of the list which included average cars you would not expect to perform better than the Lotus. Simply not enough power...

I agree that the Lotus is way down on power versus most other cars, and it's light weight can't compensate on many race tracks. However, get it on a short, twisty course, (or even a long but twisty course), and be prepared to be impressed. A long road course with long straights however does not play to its advantages of handling and light weight.
