SMG Question?

I know this is a newbie question, but I have laways been a drvier of auto trannies. Since I am now expecting my baby, my first ever high performance car, a 2002 M3 with SMG, I was hoping someone who already has the SMG can help with something:

With SMG in Sequential mode, will I be able to rev the car in neutral to say about 2,500 rpms and then pull the paddle )or the center shifter) into first gear to get off a good start from the line?

I know you manual stick guys do this all the time in order to get a jump off the line, but can this also be done with SMG?

Keep in mind that I live in the U.S. so I will not be getting Lauch Mode!

Any thoughts would be really appreciated. My baby is expected in about three weeks.

Thanks guys

According to Leo, if you mash the accelerator off the line (DSC off), you will get plenty of wheelspin and tire smoke. So it would appear that the method you describe might best be traded in for one which puts your throttle foot in charge of Human Launch Control (HLC, US-only option).

In other words, I think you can achieve the start you are looking for without the neutral drop. Your biggest problem is going to be the other side of the coin.
