Exclamation E46 M3 Sedan

Hey everyone,

was quickly in Munich today, and guess what I saw...

With a strange red square with a P on it's number (Proably test drive like in Italy EG: AV3827I-P) A Titansilver M3 that was... but 4 DOORS!!!!!! Yep guys, there is something going on at M-GmbH...

Anyone seen something same in the area lately?

I'll make a few calls at M to find out...

Greetings,

REALLY? I thought the BMW M director claimed that there would never be another 4 door version of the M3.

Could it just be a standard 3 saloon with the M bodykit and alloys?

Negative, was M GmbH made, BTW, the M bodykit is quite different than the real Ms on the E46 version, not the design, but dimensions... And 1st rule at BMW is not to trust what the director says... Was M3, but as I said test Number, so maybe just a rollin' concept. I got a rollin' concept from M with M GmbH homologation in 1999 ( got an estoril compact with 3.2liter engine and 6 gears) all made at M... only one was made (ORIGINAL) from M. Of course some tuners made the same later on.

greetings

e46 M3 w/4 doors?! tell us more! besides the distinctions that Gustave questioned, did you get a good look of the interior that made you sure it was an M3?

Well, I spoted the powerdome, that's why I noticed it first, and the car was driving slowly in an avenue next to me, we were nearly halted next to eachother, I could see that the seats where M3's, of course the side "gills" of the M3 where in, but you can put it in any car, my friend owns a 330 Ci touring, with the gills on it, and four exausts, but has nothing to do with M3, and doesn't look "m", I'd say...

The thing on that sedan was that the four pipes came out from the center, not laterally, and a normal sedan 3er 2001 has the reserve wheel underneath the car, right at the place where the exhaust is for the M, since the M comes with the compressor for the leakin tires here in Switzerland and Italy, and so there is place for the pipes. So at Dähler, they said it would be impossible or way too expensive to get rid of that reserve wheel and then install this kind of exaust.

Last thing is:

I called M, my friends there... there are actually 4!!!!!! M3 sedans working and rollin in Munich for test... one with SMG II+ (sort of testing software and components for "city drivestyle"). ANd yes, at the moments there are NO plans to build a sedan M3, (that's what they said 2 months ago about the M compact, and there it is now!!!!)

So I am quite interested, because a nice little 3er sedan with SMG II and 343 BHP could be fun as a business car... quite stealth.

greetings,

Don't thank me, it's my pleasure, and the questions are indeed interesting! Your board has teached me many things too about BMW cars on street, since I only really experience the "so called special stuff" on track in Italy. Your board is great and I will be very happy to inform you the best way I can about anything I can spot or know in advance! How about a trip to Italy or germany for some "Autostrada" or "Autobahn" race???

Greetings
