Ferry incident with new US-bound BMW M3

Quote:
The Courage tipped today at the port in Jersey City causing major damage to over 300 BMWs not including 70+ BMWs that were total losses.

a majority of the destroyed vehicles were M3s (mostly in dark blue) with a variety of 3ers and 1ers smashed up as well. A small number of the cars destroyed had German Tourist plates on them, those European delivery customers will NOT be getting their cars back.

If you were expecting your M3 or e90/92 in the next month, you're going to be in for a sad surprise.

those cars that were a total loss will be crushed, I asked a BMW rep, he stated that they will not be auctioned as there is a liability for letting those cars on the road. The shipping company's insurance is footing the bill, I do not know how they will handle those cars that are already owned by the European Delivery customers.

Those cars with light damage will be repaired at the Elizabeth Receiving facility and sold through BMW's dealer network as new cars.

BMW NA loses over 370 cars

BMW NA loses 370+ cars because of a tipped cargo ship at port in Jersey city. 70 of the cars are total losses.

Majority of the destroyed vehicles were brand new E92 ///M3s. If you guys are expecting these cars soon, you might be in for an unpleasant surprise. I suggest giving your dealer a call.

Shipping company’s insurance co. is footing the bill.

Those cars not damaged beyond repair will be fixed at BMW’s Elizabeth Receiving facility and sold as new cars. Cars that are deemed beyond repair will be crushed.

Let's hope none of you had the car on this vessel.

Wow, what was the reason for the cargo to flipp? Also how can bmw justify rebuilding the repairable cars and sell them as "new"? If that is true I am kinda not suprised and deeply dissapointed wth bmw, yet again. By the way nice find and pictures.

Wow -- how the heck did a vessel of that size tip? Any idea if it happened in port or enroute?

I think it happened during enroute as the cars were not properly binded.

I read somewhere that none of the E92 M3s were destined for sale and were instead autoshow cars.

Anyone else read that?
