What will Supersprint X Pipe and Race Mufflers do??

Gents,

I have been searching this forum but with no obvious results.... I have a stock ECU, headers, Dinan 3.91....

I don't like the way my car sounds.

What would happen if I installed just the Supersprint X Pipe and the Race Mufflers?
  1. How loud would it be?
  2. Can it still be a daily driver?
  3. Any power improvements?
I couldn't find answers to these questions with the search......Help mang!

The X Pipe will eliminate your factory resonator that is responsible for reducing exhaust noise. The SS Race Mufflers have less deadening material than the SS Sport Mufflers so both of these pieces combined will defienetely get you a more aggressive exhaust note.

Since you will be maintaining the factory header and secondary cats, I think that will keep the sound down to a semi-reasonable level (not too loud). I think you will be safe with this set up.

But add the header and cats to the mix and your car will be way too loud for most.

Without the header, power improvements should be small if any. I would get the rear section of the exhaust more so for the sound it adds to the vehicle rather than the power it adds.

Keith

Hi T Bone, that exactly the same question that I am curious about. I have yet to hear any soundclip of the Supersprint race muffler and X-pipe on an M6. But the there is a couple of soundclip of the race muffler on the M5, and I don;t think it sound loud. I think its slightly louder than stock and definitely suitable for daily driver. From a couple of post, many seemed to experience only slight increase in sound volume with the X-pipe.

Supersprint claims gain of 14 hp with its race muffler. Unclear if adding x-pipe will add to hp but will increase exhaust sound which is pretty tame on the SS race mufflers.

Which leads to the question of why anyone starts at the back rather than at the block. Wouldn't it make more sense to start with headers, which, while somewhat pricey, probably give you the best bang for the buck?

I just want some sound and any performance perks are a plus.... I hear 14 hp with the mufflers.... Anyone disagree?

Of course it does. But we're talking CHA-CHING for headers vs. just cha-...for a set of cans. Plus, don't think many people are motivated by power gains when starting from the back. Just want the car to sound mean...

SS Race Mufflers

I've had the SS Race mufflers on now for about 3 weeks. The sound is a nice improvement over stock, but it is not at all loud; just more of a presence. I've ordered the SS x-pipe from Turner; it is due in about 1 to 2 weeks. They have said it will not be 'LOUD', just a bit more presence.
I can't imagine anyone thinking the Race mufflers only would be too loud. If you are apprehensive, start the way I did; you can add the x-pipe later if you want more sound.
As to performance gains; none that I have noticed. It just sounds better.

Supersprint exhaust is probably the tamest. Just heard the new Tubi. Sounds very aggressive and louder than the Supersprint. Tubi exhaust with Supersprint x-pipe.... that would sound amazing.
