Advice on changing speedometer from miles to km?
Hello, everyone!
I just thought I would ask for your advice regarding changing of the faceplate of the speedometer, so I can loose these confusing miles and have it in kilometers.
Any ideas where I can purchase that part? Maybe a cool aftermarket?
I appreciate all your help.

Any of the cars sold in Europe will only show the km's.
Maybe you could source a replacement?
I remember trying to source replacement dials for a 3 series, there are lots of aftermarket versions but I wanted the stock look.
Keep an eye on e-bay or some of the breakers.
Richie.

Tovarich, why do you care ? For what you saved by buying a US-spec car, I'd imagine that you could buy every GAI in Nakhodka. And the radar I've seen in Russia is no match for a V1.
Can't you just set the heads-up display to Kph ? I would be reluctant to try to change the instrument face, it is surely a delicate operation.

I see you position yourself as quite knowledgable about my country. "Tovarish"??? Where did you get that, "yankee"? You are a way back in time. What part did you visit and when?

Does your car not have kms as well? UK cars have both.

The whole instrument panel is a single unit - it takes two screws to take it out and it is connected to the car's bus by a single plug. It has a great place for installing GPS antennas for GPS speed camera detectors or car trackers.

Nearly 100 visits during the 1990s, many thousands of miles by road, but unfortunately never farther east than Syktyvkar / Perm / Kazan (always wanted to see Primorye).
After these experiences it seemed incredible to me that anyone in Russia (especially someone able to afford an M6) would care in the least about how fast they are going. GAI generally did not bother expensive cars, and paying the fines was anyway cheaper per mile (sorry, kilometer) than toll roads in the US. So I am fascinated by your determination to know your speed so precisely. Have things changed so much under Putin ?
