Report, Video & Pics! My New Alpine White & Indy Red M6 !
I just picked up my new Alpine White M6 with (Full) Indianapolis Red Leather with Carbon Fiber on Wednesday May 25th.
At first, I was a bit skeptical about going with the Indianapolis Red with Carbon without seeing the colors in person. I originally wanted a more subdued (safer) combination for the interior. But after being pushed by a good handful of friends and after seeing a few pictures of an M5 with similar colors, I decided to go for it!
I figured that since the M6 is the "race" version of the 6 series line, I had to opt for an interior that was in line with the character of the "M persona". Do you blame me??? So, I placed my order, waited my 6 weeks or so for the car to arrive...and when I saw it in person - it looked great! After driving it for a few days, I now LOVE it! This color combo is AMAZING! I believe it adds an "exotic" touch to the M6 and almost "finishes" the car off. The alternating 2 tone colors of the Red with black coupled with the black carbon fiber accents bring on a SERIOUS interior appearance. So far everyone who has sat inside the car has commented positively on the interior. I am very pleased!
So - Car gets delivered Wednesday the 25th to my dealer in the Fort Lauderdale area and I immediately plan a road trip to break in the vehicle over the Memorial Day weekend. So a friend and I toss some bags in the car and drive off to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Friday afternoon. We made a few stops in a handful of other cities and retuned back into Fort Lauderdale, FL on Monday late afternoon.
Oh - I know this is off the path a bit.....but a parking valet approached us when we pulled into a night club parking lot and asked us , "How and the hell did you get this car??" I have a friend who is on a 2 year waiting list!" In addition, we heard a good handful of envious remarks from random passerbys....like "Look it’s an M6!" - Etc. etc..... We also had an older M5 run along next to us freaking out taking pictures of the car as we drove. LOL....Guess that’s to be expected since the M6s are just starting to pop up on the road...Nice to see the positive reactions though. ; )
Anyhow, the car now has 1700 miles and my 1200 mile service is scheduled for tomorrow. I am ready to rock and roll!

Here are my comments on the M6
-----------------------------------------------
Some of you may already know that I also own a black sapphire on beige leather/burl wood 2005 645 ci convertible. These 2 cars do carry similar feels but at the same time they are quite a bit different from each other.
The M6 has a similar ride feel to the 645 and both carry virtually the same set of interior options.
Thankfully, the M6 eliminates the "assisted steering/active steering" that the 645 carries. I hated this feature since it felt like the 645 was always "turning into the turn" before you finished steering the wheel toward the direction you wanted to go. The 645 always made me feel as if I was uncertain as to my control of the vehicle during high speed turns. The M6 eliminates this active steering and brings back the control to the driver.
The M6 seems to have less "jump" or "instant thrust" if you will at low RPM throttle. Almost as if the 645 seems to have more torque. The 2 cars make power differently - The M6 is far faster but you still need to bring the revs up on the M6 to feel the "kick" that the 645 has.
*SMG*
The SMG on the M6 functions more smoothly and more reliably than I expected. I was heart broken when I heard that the M6 only came in SMG since my initial experience with the SMG II in a 3 series car 2 years back was horrendous. I couldn’t believe how "choppy" the shift actions were! I only took a chance with the M6 because I heard it came with the supposedly "improved" version of the SMG II. The new SMG III is by all means a fantastic improvement and I am satisfied with its functionality.
Bottom line, the M6 is a well-balanced car. With P500 sport with S5 or S6 shift settings the car feels fantastic from an acceleration standpoint. It’s much better than that of the 645. The M6's handling and cornering under high speed turns blows away the 645. Obviously expected. The NAV works awesome, the Heads Up display is great, Bluetooth is very useful, and the stereo system (I picked up the HD and SAT radio) is the best I have had in any vehicle I’ve owned to date.
I have owned 99 c5 Corvette, 2000 Dodge Viper GTS, a 2001 Porsche 996 twin turbo, a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo, and a 2005 BMW 645cic. Now the M6. I feel that BMW's M6 has the best balance of speed, power, handling, luxury, and practicality over ANY of the cars I have owned to date PERIOD. I am one HAPPY CUSTOMER.
I had a friend who wanted to compare his 05 Gallardo to the M6 in a straight line acceleration run from a variety of different speeds but he got rid of it last month so that plan is no longer possible. Anyhow, once the 1200 mile service is complete, I will run the M6 through full throttle low and high speed runs and will report on which (my 04 Gallardo or the M6) I feel is quicker.
Some preliminary thoughts.....Even during break-in, I already played around with the M6 running through all 7 gears to 5500 rpm (I know I am not even in the main power band) and I feel the car has some SICK highway acceleration potential. Off the line - the M6 feels a bit more sluggish than the Gallardo...but come the highway - My gut tells me the M6 may pull harder (a little bit at least) than the Gallardo from an 80 MPH roll and up.
I have plans to install the Active Autowerke ECU, I will be removing the carbon air filters, gutting the cats and picking up a set of Supersprint headers. I will keep the board posted.
Anyhow, here are some pics I snapped off of the car. Wanted to see what you guys thought of the color combo. Negative and positive comments welcomed! Let me know what you think!

Very happy for you Keith, that's a stunning color combo and I'm amazed that you've already logged 1700 miles. No doubt you're really going to love it after the service visit and subsequent 5500+ rpm runs. Thanks a bunch for the writeup!
Thats one great car you got there keith
and as far as head turning this car almost made a guy get in an accident
just looking at my M6, I felt sorry for him but I laughed!
You will love your M6 even more after the service is done
it becomes totally diffrent car!
