Shifting and rpm

Sifting through the last several months of posts I wasn't able
to find anything on this subject. Forgive me if it's already been
addressed.

After about a week of driving (plus one week of being out of town and
dreaming of driving) I was curious about what rpm range most
people do their shifting in. Coming from an automatic and over a
decade removed from a manual I've found myself usually looking
for the paddle around 4500 rpm for 1st - 3rd gears (keep in mind
I'm still at the beginning stages of breakin).

I believe the manual says that the HUD flashes during optimal
shifting times but of course I haven't seen this yet and I'm assuming
this is during intense sport driving (i.e. SL55 AMG in the rear view).
I can't imagine driving this way all the time.

So for those who have been driving the M6/M5 for a while, where's
the magic zone for this shark/beast. I know that the mileage varies
from driver to driver, but I'm curious.

After breakin I like to downshift as follows: 50 mph or less 2nd, 50 - 80 mph 3rd (third goes to about 100mph), above 85mph 4th. Need those revs. After downshifting, keep the right foot planted and use s5 or s6 and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the insight mjoe. This is the kind of information I was looking
for. Now if only I can survive the breakin procedure!
