I was actually kind of lucky, but I knew it was there!!!
While walking my dog Griffy yesterday, I ran into my neighbor who runs a piloting company (they pilot ships into harbors). I casually asked him the best way to track a vessel, he whipped out his Blackberry, called his office and told me the Hojin would be in at 11:00 the next day! Pretty cool.
I didn't have the presence of mind to ask him at which berth it was docking, and here is the lucky part. As I was heading over to the port, off in the distance I saw a NYK car carrier. After about 3 trials and errors, security guards were really very nice, I worked my way into the port, found the pier and snapped the pics. The timing was pure luck, it was about 12:30.

Look like the Hojin has pulled out of Long Beach, all the Benz's are gone so we should be fast now!
If you look just to the left of the big glob of ships in LA/LB harbor, you'll see a green triangle pointing east that is the Hojin. I think it will track down to San Diego next.
EDIT: On second glance, I think the ship that I described above is the California Jupitor. The Hojin is still somewhere in the middle of the mess, but it is on the move. It dropped off the tracker because it stopped moving while unloading. Once it started moving again, it popped back up on the tracker.

The ocean trek is coming to a close! It looks like it will be docking today at Port Hueneme right on schedule.
Now all that is needed is to blast through the VPC and hop a truck to the dealer. Latest report by the dealer says that M's are moving fast through the VPC. I'm expecting it to be at the dealer later this week, but we'll see!

As a data point for all you guys shipping to the west coast, the boat trip was 24 days which is very consistent according to my dealer. He originally told me 25 days even after the shipping company said it would be 20 days. Chalk one up for the dealer!
My car arrived at the VPC in Hueneme on Sunday. As of Monday evening there was no verification through the system that it has arrived at the VPC, even though we know it is there. There seems to be about a day lag updating the movement of the car through New Jersey. Updates happen overnight on Monday (for weekend activity I think) and the dealers usually see them on Tuesday when they open for biz, once again according to my dealer.
I suspect that I could get an update tomorrow stating that my car is at the VPC. My guy at the dealership (only guy that knows how to work the system) is off tomorrow so it's possible that I'll have verification that my car has been released to the trucking company before I have official verification that it was even at the VPC. It would be a pleasant surprise if it is "released" to transport truck tomorrow, or perhaps Wednesday. The trip to the dealership is two days, so we're looking at Thursday or Friday for delivery as the best case, quite possibly into next week.
You guys are looking good right about now!

Here in the West (for sure) BMW contracts with Wagoneer for there overland transporting. You can call them at 800 449-3195 give them the last 7 digits of your VIN and get an update. You can bet that I'll be in touch with them a few times over the next couple of days!!
That's it for now.

I heard a rumor that the boat was faster by a day because they seem to have forgotten to put the bimmers on the boat, making the boat a bit lighter and faster.

Habib, too funny. And MTO, congrats, and don't forget to bring along that wet/dry vac (most notably the 'wet' function) to really complete your delivery experience!
