Washing and Waxing My M6 and Your M6

I picked up my car in April 26th and not even 24's later
I found out something that really pissed me off, this detail shop
I take all my cars to over the years washed my M6 and then I came
to pick it up. then he hit me with this bad
news, he asked me to touch the roof and the trunck and all over the car
What I found was that the car had an over spray on it !!! Yes it was like the
Car is covered with invisible sand that doesn’t come out.
So I went right away to the dealership and spoke to the manager "while really Pissed" and asked him if that was acceptable and he told me to ask for whatever and we will work it out. So I told him that my detail shop will take care of It and you guys have to pay the bill, he replied with no problem just bring me the bill. My detail shop done clay bar on the car and waxed it for me and The problem was solved however my question is this…

How good is waxing for the car and is it true that the first year
You should NOT wax your car because it may take off the factory clear coat system On the car which protects the paint job?

My self I will not wax the car again for at least 6-8 months from now;
What do you guys think about those issues and washing and waxing Hints will be greatly appreciated!

BMW's clearcoat is very soft, perhaps for elasticity and minimize chips), so extra care is required. Many on these boards use ZainoBros polishes.

I did a search (for 'Zaino') in the M5 forum for you, since there've been a lot of threads on waxing and polishing.

Here's the search result: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sea...earchid=729647.

I used to use Meguiars back in the 80's on -- believe it or not -- my BMW 635Csi and Porsche 911s.

Fwiw, I've used Zymol (blue) and Zymol Concours exclusively for the past couple decades, as the difference IS noticeable, though both the difference in cost and effort is substantial.

This is a personal (read: stubborn, old-fahsioned, prove-me-wrong) thing, but for non-clearcoat finishes, I still like Zymol. For my pending M6, I'm getting courageous, taking the advice of the M5 board and ordering Zaino.

There's no harm in whatever you choose, as you can always remove it and reapply whatever you'd like, just apply it correctly (no circles) and be gentle.

Actually they recommend multiple coats (of Z2 and Z5). There are also polishing instructions on the Zaino website here: http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/...de=APPLICATION.

The car is covered with a protective wax from the factory to preserve and protect the shine while in transit. Your dealer is supposed to give it 2 good washes for the wax to come off completly. My guess is that they didn't do this and the wax was still on the car while your detail shop was working on it.

frylord,

You sound quite knowledgable on this topic. I had always thought that "Cosmoline" was the manufacturer's preferred protective chemical of choice, do you you whether this has changed?

At any rate, I found this on the web:
