Sportauto Supertest BMW M6

Nordschleife 8.09 min
Hockenheim 1.14.4 min
0-100 in 4.2 sec
0-200 in 12.8 sec
Pirelli tires

The speedlimiter already stepped in at 259km/h (when they drove the M5 the speedlimit stepped in at 269km/h).
I believe the track wasn't warm enough for the M6 and the speedlimit already at 259km/h is the reason for the 8.09 min laptime around Nordschleife. With warmer track and speedlimit raised to 305km/h the laptime would probably be improved by several seconds.

Anyone info from the test and any comments from HvS?

Re: Sportauto Supertest BMW M6

Is the speed where the limiter engaged the actual speed or the speed as displayed by the speedo. All manufacturers have some speedo error and maybe the M5 has a little more than the M6 or simply that particular M5 had more than that particular M6... That time around the Ring is pretty good.

It's the actual speed!

Re: Sportauto Supertest BMW M6

Translation of the most important comments:

- The intensity of the Servotronic support depends on speed and revs. Result: The steering feels perfect.

- Nordschleife: The 8,09 min. lap time (fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsas) was done with a speed limited M6. When hitting 259 km/h on Döttinger Höhe the M6 is way below its best. At least a lap time being intimately near the magical 8 min. mark is out of the question if the M-package is installed.

- At Hockenheim (1.14,4 min.) the M6 benefits strongly from the Corsa tires' grip qualities. The M6 did a 1.15,9 min. lap time with Continental tires (M5 = 1.16,5 min.).

- An M6 filled up with gas weighs 1.761 kg (M5 1.844 kg).

- Even if fitted with the Pirellis the M6 does a good job on the wet handling course. That speaks for the well balanced nature of the M6.

- The reason for the M6 being so slow on the Nordschleife despite of the r-compound-tire advantage has something to do with the road behaviour the M6 displays if fitted with the Corsas. The Corsa tires clearly worsen the understeering tendency, and the rear of the M6 tends to swerve abruptly if you hit the car's limits (Power-Oversteering). That problems don't occure if the M6 is fitted with the Contis. The Pirellis have got more grip but the Contis are more good-natured and more comfortable to drive. They assume that the M6 fitted with the Contis does almost the same lap time on the Nordschleife.

I'm pretty sure that all cars come from the factory with Contis, mine did.
