headlight housings

I have a 2004 645Cic and wondered if anyone out there has removed their headlight housing to upgrade to the clear corners. My partner has an M5 and a Z8 and we were going to try this ourselves. Any hints?

Re: headlight housings

No, but I've got an '05 645Ci and I'd be interested to know how it goes. To replace the entire headlight/turn signal mess with European parts is very possible from what I'm told, but this is very expenseive, probably over $1,000. U.S.

Oddly I talked to an European while on vacaation (during my July 2005 ED) who would have liked the U.S. amber turn signals (for an 5er). I guess we all want to be different from what the rest of our countrymen get standard.

Re: headlight housings

Hey BlackBeauty (AKA"REDSNAPPER"), Will you ever be happy with what you have? There are a lot of adults in this whorld that don't even have carsand all you can worry about is wether or not your lenses are orange or clear! You should be working anyway. Matter of fact, why don't you post a pic you took last week. I sure hope your partner knows what he's doing.....LOL! Shrek

Re: headlight housings

Mark,
I'd love to see pics of your 645 'cause I have been thinking about the racing mesh...but haven't ordered yet b/c my shrek-like business partner (SAMPSUE) wasn't as thrilled about it as I was. So, if you have any, show 'em off!
Also, do you think any of our Euro E63 friends would want to swap our amber color housings for their clear? I think shipping might be less than the $1200-$1600 price tag for brand new ones

Race Mesh Grille

I have a few shots of the front of my car in the owners gallery section of the board: photos

But this before and after shot shows the improvement best.

Also Race Mesh Grilles has a hi-res photo of my car in their E-63 section.

I recommend the product. In my case, I opted for the more expensive Polished Stainless Steel (which has a chome-like apperance) and had to pay air shipping to Hawaii so my total was $177. Worth every penny IMO.

If you order one, tell Michael Levasseur that I recommended you

Sorry about the turn signal lenses, it was only a passing conversation, so I don't have anyone for you or me to swap parts with in Europe

Post some photos of you 6er also.

Re: headlight housings

Look at this vendor for clear corner headlight assemblies:

http://www.gmpperformance.com/index....ail&PID=112706

For some reason the '05 is about a 1/3 the cost of the '04 model. I did not check parts list for differences yet.

Edit: US spec PN for headlight assemblies show a change at 9/04 (MY Change)
What is stange is BMW shows no cost difference yet, the aftermarket kit as advertised by the vendor has a great difference.

Description Supplement Qty From Up To Part Number Price

BI-XENON HEADLIGHT, LEFT 1 09/2004 63126942575 $998.82

BI-XENON HEADLIGHT, LEFT 1 63127165979 $998.82

BI-XENON HEADLIGHT, RIGHT 1 09/2004 63126942576 $998.82

BI-XENON HEADLIGHT, RIGHT 1 63127165980 $998.82

BI-XENON HEADLIGHT AKL, LEFT 1 09/2004 63126942577 $1,194.12

Euro Spec – unfortunately no price – probably too many currencies to deal with.

Re: headlight housings

Your friend's got a really difficult job ahead. I own an E60 545I. I changed the xenon bulbs. I asked around and was told that the only way to reach the bulbs was by removing the headlight ***'y. That I did. But first I had to remove the front bumper before I could reach the screws for the headlight ***'y. Took me almost 2 hours to complete the job.

Cobradav,
that link was where I got that $1600 est from! I look at that daily and have to keep thinking up reasons NOT to buy it!
The only difference I can figure for the prices is this:
2005 6-Series Headlight Housing w. Clear Corner:
2004 6-Series Headlight Assembly w. Clear Corner

Does the difference betw housing vs assembly mean one includes the lights/guts (assembly) and housing is just the outside container ? Sampsue and I will be in Charlotte in a few weeks and are going to try to stop by GMP...maybe they will show us.

Ah, I did not notice that subtle distinction. Could be significant or maybe not. Let us know what u find out. I was not interested in pursuing this so did not try to get more info.

Re: headlight housings

Mark,
trying to upload pics so let me know if you can't open them.
If I do get the mesh, you think I should stick to the black theme?
My wheels are satin finish, not chrome.
