Re: Video: BMW M6 vs. BMW M5 E39 now online
A co-worker of mine has a '96 Dodge Viper GTS and is in the market for an E-60 M5. He is planning to sell the Viper because he can't take his wife and 2 daughters in it, besides he hardly ever drives it, even to work by himself. Anybody in the market for a Viper?
His was raced on the U.S. Mainland before he bought it but even if it were 100% stock, there is massive torque in those snakes. Forget about the roughly equal HP (M5 and Viper GTS), more torque is more twisting force to the wheels. I'm not so surprised that an M5 had trouble with a GTS. According to my friend, Vipers are hard to launch (smoky spin outs) but rolling starts are no problem and you get to head in your intended direction of travel. Not a very civilazed car, just a lot of grunt in a hell of a hurry. Lots of torque plus fewer gears = few gear changes, it all works out.
