my first drive with the new 645 Ci

Hi folks,

I had have the chance today to drive the new BMW 645 Ci. My dealer invited me to a castle in South-Germany (near Göppingen) where BMW organized "closed room" for some people.
First we get a drink and had to look at a video (about 15 minutes). After the video, we have got in depth view of the new 645 Ci. After that, finally, we came to the part test driving. I got the keys of a silver 645 Ci with manual gear (I wanted manual). There where also automatic but not a SMG .
I have got also a road map with all radars marked

We sit in the car, my car dealer (a nice woman) at my side and I was driving. First turn the motor on and put in the first gear. By starting I made a small jump, the clutch is very different from my Porsche. The motor you don´t hear inside the car. The motor is really fantastic, it hangs good on gas. Also the active steering is very nice. It does feel more comfartable then with my porsche but much more sportiv then with a new e 320.
The room/space inside is large enough for 2 children (until 15 years) on the back seats. Simmilar to Maserati GT. For two adults definitiv to small. The quality of exterior and interior seems to be the best BMW had ever done.

After finishing our tour (about 71 km) we parked the car, and one of the guys came to take our car to park it into the garage. Then I heard for the first time the sound form outside. The V8 sounds more the beautiful, you hear a powerful "blubber". The motor sounds from outside ten times better then from inside.

For me the car looks great, drives great and sounds great. The M6 will be my next car.

Speaking with one of the technician, he told me that probabbly the M6 will come sooner and also the M5. In Essen there is the tuning fair, and some are presenting the new 645 and 545 with even more then 600 hp. This could be also a reason why BMW is enlarging the M motor from 500 to 550 hp. Because so many tuners had announced tuning packages for the 545/645 motor BMW could release the M5 and M6 sooner. I hope so

I hope the look and materials in the M6 are upgraded from the 645, as BMW did with the E39 M5 vs 540. How do I get an invitation from BMWNA for a secret test drive?

Thanks for the write up. There appears to be a lot of postive energy and discussions arising from the 6 series and the upcoming M6. I also am getting pretty excited about the M6, even more so than the E60 M5. The suggsted power boost of the V10 is also pretty exciting news.

Regards,

Terk.

it seems to me that out of all the new models, the 6 is the winner.

True, very true. As much as I want to like the E60 M5, I find myself liking the new 6 even more. This is a great reason to keep my E39 M5 and look for a coupe...

Terk.

great stuff,I really am excited by the m6,and with 550 bhp...wow .
Does anyone know what sort of fuel consumption something like that would have ? How efficient is a v10 compared to a v8 ?

Just few remarks:

- the 645 is relativ small, smaller then M3 coupé or even cabrio.
- the interiour and quality is good enough, we don´t need any upgrade for the M6. The only thing I (personally) would like is the roof (from inside) should be black alcantara, and the dashboard should be leather. The rest is really really supberb.

One asked how to get the invitation, you have to be a customer for years (I have bought for my company, my wife and me 12 BMWs) and you have to show interest to buy in 2004 2 or 3 cars (one of them M5 or M6).

Well, that all depends. It is a larger engine, which could automatically mean more gas used. Being a high revving blast, could mean your foot is on the floor more, using more gas.. If you have a heavy foot with your e39, i suspect you are ready for the mileage (I know I am!).

Alot of it depends on the gearing, the power curves, driving styles, etc.

That is a hard question to answer in terms of real world. I imagine it will be the same or slightly worse consumption than the e39 M5 in everyday driving, although a full throttle, I suspect it will go through high octane like a fish goes through water.
