Just thought I would share with you guys the replacement of the OEM BMW emblems with Carbon Fiber Emblems. I have wanted to do this mod for so long and finally got around to it, all because of this board too!!

I would have had no idea how to replace the trunk emblem if it wasn't for this board, thanks so much (especially Impulse)!

I got these from Trinity Autosport :

Since the trunk emblem is the exact same size as the front one, you have to buy another front emblem and grind down the pegs that stick into the car so that they don't exist anymore. Then use a credit card like object to take off the rear emblem, and slightly grind down the things sticking out from the latch. Then just use double-sided tape to stick the emblem on. Here is the post that helped me originally.

Looking awesome!
Little subtle mods like this changes the car :biggrinbounce:

I had the same theme on my previos 6er as it was jet black,
now that I have red M6, I went for something different

Red/Black

for wheel emblems, I couldn't find red ones... lol
i'm planning to just cut a bit of red fibre tape and stick them on..

Bit the bullet and finally ordered a set for the whole ride; got some overlays for the M badges, too. Will hopefully have them all on in a couple weeks.

So, I tried to order from one of our vendors; but the wheel caps were on back order. I took a chance and got these from an ebay vendor (altimotor, no affiliation) and they look very promising. Main reason I'm posting is that the trunk badge looks like it's actually designed for the trunk, no shaving needed. I haven't had a chance to install, yet, so I can't say for sure. Those of you that have done this, will the trunk piece fit without modification?

Back side of the hood and trunk emblems.

Hood on left; trunk on right I believe.

+1
exactly my thought.. lol

btw, I have the same opinion regarding the lowering springs.
I'm quite worried about the other parts going wrong and all that, perhaps I'm playing too safe here.
I didn't go for the ECU either, didn't want to risk losing the warranty..so..
but i heard really good things about those mods

just to share some idea,
my next mod will be custom steering wheel
i'm planning to wrap it with knappa leather around grip area with alcantara the rest, 12o'clock with racing red stripe.
(my friend had full alcantara steering on his 135i, it started to come off after 6 months)
i don't know how much it'd cost there in US but here in the UK i can get it done for under $200.
or maybe painting the grey platic panels around the gear lever?

just sharing some ideas

My hood and wheel CF pieces just arrived today from Trinity. I swapped the hood emblem already. I ordered a trunk specific emblem (with holes vice pins) via eBay which should show up in a few days. Check out the below attachment for the effects of UV after only 3 years on the hood emblem.

Also here is a photo of the wheel emblems outer rings removed (they just snap off). I will spray paint them gold to match my car and then take the OEM wheel centers back off (using duct tape of course). I used to have CF wheel centers, but one fell off and the others looked pretty bad from UV so I went back the the stock one over a year ago.

Oh yeah, since I don't have the proper plastic body pry bars, I used a sharpened old credit card to get under the hood emblem. It is not stiff enough to use as a pry bar, so I then used a wood chisel and placed it over the credit card (which is my paint saver) and then wedged the chisel under the old emblem in order to lift it enough to take it off by hand. The new emblem of course just presses into the stock holes on the hood.

Update - The paint is dry on the gray rings of the wheel emblems. I will swap out the emblems tomorrow morning. The point here being that the dull gray rings pop-off easily and can be painted to match your car. Even if the paint is not exact, it won't matter since the wheel emblems are a ways from the painted body panels.

I think the older wheel emblems on the pre-LCI cars (2005 - 2007) had chrome rings built-in, but these after market ones have separate plastic rings of a nondescript gray color that beg to be painted! :lightbulb:

about to order some from amazon. anyone know what size MM the trunk and hood? you say its the same, but Amazon.com is offering two different sizes, 82/74mm. are they both 82 MM? I would measure myself, but I am in Africa and would like to have these arrive by the time I get home. thanks.
