Dan- I bought the BMW Ultimate Protection plan from my BMW dealer, which is an extended warranty through BMW and not a 3rd party.
I got the 7yr/100,000 Platinum Plan, which covers everything EXCEPT clutch. It does however cover the SMG pump and everything else related, just not the clutch as they classify it as "a normal wear and tear item". The Platinum Plan also covers anything that falls into the "entertainment" category such as the I-drive, which a lot of the 3rd party warranties do not cover including CPO.
I've only had to use it once so far for one of the throttle actuators....but it was very painless. My SA took care of everything, and I just paid the standard $50 deductible. Another thing I like about this plan is that they only use genuine BMW parts, which is a huge plus in my book. Don't remember what I paid for it....but seems like it was around $5000-$6000
I did a search and didnt really come up with anything solid....
Question:
Other than BMW CPO, what extended warranty do you have on your beast?
What company holds your extended warranty and how good are they to deal with when filing a claim?
What is a typical deductible?
How much does a great extended warranty costs which includes SMG pump and clutch replacement?
What company do you recommend?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Dan,
Copying my response below in italics from another thread on warranty.
My deductible is 250 or 500, dont remember. It is a comprehensive plan from a company I used before in my Audi and trust as they have delivered on repairs and claims have been a breeze (taken care of by the shop directly with them). Most importantly, they have been around for a long time including through a recession and should not go bust.
Regarding what is covered, I would have to scan the docs they sent (Jerry can fax or email it you within a few hours as well). You cant buy from them directly, only though dealers. At time of purchase my car had 38K miles and was touching 4 years, their criteria was it needed to be under manufacturer warranty before they covered.
They also offer a 'wear and tear' coverage I believe along with a few other supplemental plans than you should qualify for given the young age of your new beast.
Why dont you try these:
4/48K Premium Plus External Warranty from National Warranty Corp (you can remind him about the M6 warranty he sold me). I used them for my Audi years ago with no problems.
Jerry 209-522-8100 ($2850, although to be fair he did offer a really cheap price to me and the price may have gone up to around 3K ish)
Call your credit union. They should have some warranty programs
Call CarChex. They offered me a decent warranty but mine quoted me 4-4.8K.
Lastly, try the dealer I bought my car from. He also had a good deal and many plans to choose from. Speak to Ahmed 972.888.9998
I think one of these should click. Some of them have restrictions (like you have to buy the warranty before factory expires and/or you have to have below a certain amount of mileage - usually 40K). You'll have to call to find out.
Hope this helps (and saves you $$$ compared to BMW's warranty!)

That coverage list is spectacular! All of the extended warranties have exclusions, but in looking at this included list some things really stand out. The alternator and regulator is covered, fuel injectors, water pump, convertible top motor just to name some commonly excluded items. Not to mention the platinum addition which covers electronics.
Having the OEM parts is also key, a guy on the 6 board just had one of the aftermarket companies replace his engine. In the contract it allowed for re-manufactured or used parts, the first replacement had a problem and it took a second.
I have NAC though Bruce here. I believe it was about $4200 for 5yr/100k and it covers almost everything. I even have an email saved where he said it covers the vanos system, smg clutch and pump so make sure he confirms that in email and save it if you ever have an issue. I believe I had a $50 or $100 deduct and they have been very good so far. I had the oil cooler, engine fan and a battery terminal(not the same one as the recall) Total was around $2500 in repairs and they covered it all. If you modify the car at all keep all stock parts and if an inspector is ever sent out make sure to put it back to stock to play it safe.

My original warranty is up in October. I've been talking to my dealer and their standard price for the platinum 7yr/100K mile coverage is like $7,200. I've been looking at the 7yr/70K mile warranty as I'm on Oahu and won't drive more than 10K per year. It still runs around $6K. I haven't attempted to haggle yet. I'm not even sure if they do...Bruce is suppose to get back to me with a quote from another company, but I haven't heard back yet. Let me know if you get a decent price. The ones I'm being quoted seem really high.
