Eis Race to Dinan: Impressions

I thought I would post this since I used threads like this when I was trying to decide.

When I bought my M6 it came with an eisenmann race installed, which sounded amazing however it was just too loud under 4k rpm and for "normal driving". There are only a few exhaust choices, and I wanted to buy used. So it was down to a tubi rumore and dinan. I have the stock exhaust still, however that would be too tame. I was able to pick up a Dinan and have it installed yesterday. I think the tubi would still be too loud for my daily driving, having that "always ON" sound.

Start up: it was louder than expected. Not as loud as the e-race but louder than stock. Neither sounds as good as my E90 M3 w/eisenmann sport at idle however . Advantage dinan.

Slow driving: its 90% as loud as the e-race and kept that "exotic f1" pitch that I love. Advantage dinan since you get all the nice tone without the heavy cabin "boom".

Floor it acceleration: under 4k rpm fairly similar to the e-race, but over 4k rpm its not as epic as the e-race. The e-race escalates as you get closer to 8k rpm, the dinan seems to taper off around 7k. Advantage e-race.

In the cabin: The e-race was intolerable for me. Honestly, I would get a headache after long drives. Super drone on the highway. The dinan is silent on the highway, lol. You can hear it when you downshift, etc so you know its there. Advantage dinan.

Cold Start: Obviously the e-race was embarrasing, the dinan was still a bit loud - louder than I thought it would be but tolerable. Advantage dinan.

Appearance: I MISS the oval tips on the e-race. so sweet. however I do like the engraved tips on the dinan. Advantage e-race.

Overall: I miss the epic top end the e-race provides, however I like everything else about the dinan better. I feel like I "neutered" the car a bit by taking the "balls out" exhaust off, ha ha. The e-race tells everybody "here I come!!!!" a mile away all the time. The dinan provides a similar "tone" of the sweet f1 sound, at 60% of the noise. I dont think I'm the kind of guy who wants that kind of attention every second I'm driving.

Now if they could only make an exhaust that has the daily civility of the dinan, but with the high pitch excitement of the e-race over 4k rpm... that would be worth some $$$$$

Overall I'm very happy with the switch. After owning the car for 6 weeks, I got to drive the family to dinner for the first time since its not going to hurt the kids ears.

Just my $.02

Great write-up-I've been looking at the e-race but you have convinced me it is too loud and I do not want that.
Thanks
Bill

I dont mean to scare you off, some might think its too quiet the best thing to do is try to find some other local owners and take a spin with them

Why dont you look at Supersprint, very underrated but superior sound engineering and quality. However I must suggest that if you want a slighter toned down from eisenmann pitch then dont have the xpipe. i have the xpipe with their sports mufflers. It gives a mixture of deep throaty with high pitch at top end. But nowhere as exotic as eisenmann I would say.

Dinan in my opinion is just like stock with their name etched on the mufflers. and i find their tips very dull. Eisenmann and Supersprints have fabulous tips.

Eisenmann all the way!!!

When I first got my E-race installed I thought it was going be way to loud for my DD after the first 5 minutes in the car.

After a month of the exhaust I have gotten use to it and now want it louder!!!!

Going to be doing a resonator delete replaced with straight pipe here very soon.

Very informative write up.

Glad you are happy with the Dinan though. Enjoy!

Ok, so here's my question. You love the tips of the Eisenmann and the sound at higher rpms. Why not just get the Eisenmann Sport? Just curious as I'm still on my quest to figure out what the perfect exhaust is for the M6.

Good enough reasons for me. I had Akra Evolution on my E92 and it was awesome, bit it doesn't sound loud enough on the M6. Haven't heard Eisenmann Sport in person on the M6. Wonder if it's boomy on the M6? Thanks for the reply.

Akra evos on the m6 is very tame sounding, its not much louder than stock with a more meaty tone. Sold mine to another forum member late last year.
