traction off v.s. traction on. Which is really faster?

So ive been playing around with trac lately. On a straight away with track off I notice when getting on it in 1st, once I hit around 8200rpm and shift into 2nd I notice immediately 2nd gear is almost at 8200rpm as well and its time to shift into 3rd. Its almost like even with trac off the car for some reason slips from 1st to 3rd but its not actually slipping. Its hard to describe what I mean. I'll have to record it. But when trac is on it almost feels like it shifts smoother and the car actually accelerates faster from 1st to 3rd.

Now on the freeway ive noticed with trac control off when shifting from 2nd to 3rd to 4th the gears hold much longer and the car pulls harder.

I think the fellow is saying that at 8200 rpm in first, he shifts to second, but the rpms don't drop. I suppose I can see how this is possible with DSC off, as one's car is simply spinning the rear tires. If this is the case, I can see how leaving "trac" on would accerlate faster as the nanny was keeping the driver from overpowering traction.

Shifts smoother? Freeway performance with DSC off?

Perhaps the OP can elaborate a bit and clarify.

As long as you have tires that can stick to the pavement then it is almost always better to have TC turned off. If you don't have sticky tires then it is somewhat a crapshoot depending on a few factors. However, the M6 doesn't really have much torque, let alone low end torque, so traction issues will never be severe unless you really cheap out on tires.

We dont really understand your question.

Power is power. Traction is traction.

If your tires are not fully warmed up and DSC is on - DSC will pull back power to keep the car on the straight line for you when your tires start to slip.

And with DSC off, if your tires are not fully warmed up - the tires will be slipping and sliding which will raise your RPM as the tires spin faster.

It is also almost impossible to shift from 1st to 2nd and immediately hit 8,200 RPM not unless again your tires are slipping badly.

A much easier way to see and feel what DSC is all about, is to get your car on a track. Try powering out of a corner with DCS on, and you will feel the throttle being limited during aggressive cornering. With DCS off, one needs to be careful as you can mash the pedal in a corner and spin very easily.
