Hello everyone, I will soon be purchasing a 2010 M6, and one of the biggest joy for me is the hard drive based navigation system which is basically what this thread upgrade is all about.

My question is - to even speed up the boot up process (similar to a Personal computer) is it possible to upgrade the BMW hard drive to a SSD / Soild State Drive? Or has someone done this already?

Dan, the HDD that you will get with a 2010 is a solid state HDD embedded within the Computer Infotainment Center (CIC). There is really nothing further to upgrade. It's part and parcel of the module that will come with your 2010. The only add-on that I and others would recommend is the COMBOX, (mounts behind the rear seat replacing an existing module), which has many additional features, nothing to do with HDD storage space or boot up time. That upgrade is well documented and us Veteran's will be more than happy to help you once you pull the trigger.

Congrats on the decision to move forward. If you've decided on the Cab; Congrats a second time. You're going to love it!

I'm working on installing my recently received CF Cab Lid (the part the ragtop sits on when closed. Rough picture attached. I had to do a little Resin work to fix some cracks that occurred while in transit. Think I've become a fiberglass guru. In the final stages of sanding and final coating.

Also working on a very, very, very bright AE (pre LCI) upgrade, that I will share once complete. (Thanks to the influence and assistance of Hasan,, Ehssan, mimi74, and especially dtm996, plus few other members and non members). This one is intense and the goal is equal to or > F10/F12 AE brightness during the day. Some teaser pix attached. Will also get rid off the orange corners, and upgrading the Low Beam projector lens to a clearer/brighter version. I merely absorbed other people's mods into one major one. I may even CF the shroud just inside the clear front light housing (not Di-Noc, but rather CF fabric overlay). More to come on all this.

Back to thread; Great choice on the decision Dan!

Thank you so much for the info Allan!
So the stock BMW hard drive is SDD. Awesome! No need to upgrade.

Once I am ready to upgrade to COMBOX - I will let you all know. I will start reading now on COMBOX thread and understand what its all about.
Thanks for the info and recommendations.

Yes, I am leaning towards a Vert this time. We'll see what I end up with. I am getting impatient as I am ready to buy, but nothing out there currently that meets my requirements yet (2010 CPO, Carbon Black or Monaco Blue, low mileage, tan interior, SMG.) Patiently waiting.....

The CF Cab lid you have looks awesome! Wow! I am looking forward to seeing your completed post on that.

I also like your next mod, pre LCI super bright LED AE. Those are bright! Looking forward to seeing it completed!

Thanks again my friend.

See you in Vegas next month. Are you driving your beast to Vegas?

I am driving to Vegas to meet you guys. Not sure if I'm driving the Beast yet. Gas makes Southwest Airlines attractive, and weather in August on that drive prohibits top down; which is the only way I drive. Then there's LEO which I've had the pleasure of knowing on previous trips, even with the stealth V1 and Jammer. But one way or another, I will be there.

I know it is off the thread topic, but that cf lid looks fantastic. Especially since the factory boot is prone to discoloration over time. Perhaps another thread in order as I am sure many would have questions about where you got that! At least I am curious.

Good idea Mark, and will do once installed. "The CF addiction"

Thanks!

Thanks to all of the Veterans for the incredible posts over the past year or two. I recently ordered the CIC Retrofit Kit with COMBOX and 6NR/6FL. Time to get to work retrofitting my 2007 E63!

Best,
Guy
