This is pure conjecture but couldn't it have been from the prior owner perhaps locking the keys in the car,and trying to break in, or is that even possible?
If it is possible-that should make you feel better!
Bill
Bill,
You make an excellent point. I have caused damage like this on a few of my "beater" cars, most recently my 2002 Chevy truck. Although I would never dream of doing this to a car near the caliber of an M6 I certainly wouldn't rule it out as a possibility. I would think that someone low enough to even attempt a break in on another gentleman's car wouldn't stop at this unless of course they were spooked. I used a crowbar on my truck before I gave in and called pop-a-lock, but I think that's just the man in me not wanting to call for help.
Defyant,
I am very sorry for your misfortune. I know all to well the pain of discovering a previously unknown imperfection in your love. I wish you the best and hope that this is either an isolated incident, or as Bill stated simply the PO locked his keys in the car.

Sorry to hear about what happened, like what many people said on here hopefully it was the previous owner. Just thinking about it is making me paranoid. On another note, somebody mentioned on here that because the vin is visible you can go out and get a copied made of the key, is that even possible? that sounds like gone in 60 seconds stuff lol
Yesterday I had just locked myself out of my f250 so I called aaa and had them open the door for me. They couldn't jimmy it so they put a wire precisely where your hole is located. I wouldn't knock them or any other locked key service out of the equation.
Update - Rigged up a rough but effective solution. Purchased http://amzn.com/B000CP39I8 at Amazon for less than 50 bucks and hid it near the car out of sight. Long story short, if anyone approaches the car from the drivers side when I'm parked under by building, this goes off with a 130 db screech. Perfect for what I needed, hope it works and complements the existing alarm.
My neighbours lovely blue Audi S5 got massively keyed last week, really sad. He had recently put on a new clear bra kit and had the car detailed, now it needs 50% of panels repainted.
This is my insurance.
