Transmission Malfunction-photo included. SMG warranty coverage?

Hey Guys:

I had my tranny seize up at a light but ended up fixing itself yesterday and haven't had a problem for a day. Dropping it off to the Dealership tomorrow, curious if this is the warning that people have received when their SMG/Clutch went out. I still have CPO warranty for 2 more months so would be stoked to get this replaced if that's the case but thought I would share the photo since I had a chance to take it.

Sorry for the bad quality, i did it quick while trying to start it up with traffic moving lol

You can get this fault message for a number of reasons.

The real cause can only be told after looking at the fault codes.

Have it checked and insist that they look into the issue ASAP. These cars have really problematic gearboxes. Mine had the red cog of death twice in four years and just this morning it left me by the roadside. The funny thing was I was travelling to a car event that I had been invited to attend by BMW to check out the new M6! Suffice to say I never got there and spent hours at the dealership securing a replacement car for what looks to be gearbox failure once again. The last one was replaced 18 moths ago!

Good luck and ensure it's checked out and persist that they need to fix the issue. Word of advice get the extended warranty sorted as these things cost a bomb to repair!

Dealer says Clutch needs replacing

So the Dealer got back to me today after dropping off, bad news it's the clutch which isn't under warranty since it's a wear and tear part. Car is still under CPO so I told them to swap out the SMG pump if that's a problem since it's covered but they said it's fine, it's the clutch.

Got quoted $2500 for the clutch replacement but the service advisor mentioned that once they open it up, they'll be able to tell if the flywheel is still good. If not, it will be $4200.

Are these prices accurate? I have another indie tech working on a quote as well.

I would suggest that you change the flywheel with the clutch.

In addition, you might want to put a SPEC clutch kit in there.
