Michelin Pilot Super Sport

As most of you are aware, Michelin produces the Pilot Super Sport for the front of our M6 in the 255/40ZR19. Michelin does not produce the rear 285/35ZR19. All of the reviews and tests conducted by Road and Track, Car and Driver, etc. site the Pilot Super Sport as a superior performance tire.
I contacted Michelin via their website (contact us) to ask if they plan on producing the rear tire in the size for the M6. Here is their response:

June 25, 2012

Hello William,

Thank you for your email. We welcome the opportunity to serve you.

In regards to the email you sent stating:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Is Michelin planning on producing the Super Pilot Sport tire in a 285/35ZR19. The tire size is applicable to the rear of the BMW M6. The front tire size (255/40ZR19) is available but not the rear tires.
Thank You!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

We appreciate your request for Michelin Pilot Super Sport in size 285/35zr19. Unfortunately, we do not currently manufacture this tire in the size you need. Your request will be forwarded to the appropriate Marketing Group for future consideration.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.

It is our goal to ensure that your issue has been resolved or your question answered to your satisfaction. If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 1-800-642-4354 (toll free) between 8:00AM and 8:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday or between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Eastern Time on Saturday.

Sincerely,

Bill

If anyone else would be interested in purchasing the rear tire size for our M6's please take an opportunity to contact Michelin and request they produce the 285/35ZR19. With enough requests they may move forward with production.

I just used 275/35-19.
The difference is pretty trivial.
The 275 Michelin has a wider tread that my old 285.

You must mean 275/30. A 275mm section width in a 35 aspect is not wider than a 285 with a 35 aspect ratio.

A 275/35 Michelin PSS is 10.2" Tread Width.

A 285/35 Hankook Ventus V12 evo is 9.8" tread width.

Do you need any additional schooling?

I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't researched it; it seems the old adage of 285mm being 285mm is gone. Much like a 335i no longer has a 3.5 engine.

where did you research that spec of 10.2? Ah.....so it is! That is one reason why I would not purchase a Hankook tire. Still wouldn't go that route as the sizes listed for the Pilot Super Sport (PSS) is a 12.7 millimeter difference in height (front to rear) versus the stock size (using the Hankook as the example) of 2 millimeters of difference in height (front to rear). Might not look bad if you are lowered.

Didn't mean to be offensive BTW.

Which I'm going to purchase based on Michelin's response. I do have the S-04s on my Cobalt SS/SC and my X3. I'm pleased with those tires but really wanted to give the Michelins a try.

I'm happy with mine; even if the 275 PSS would be wider I'd still go with a 285 labeled tire, and the PS2 were out of the question due to the dismal wear.

Do you have some pictures of your M6 with those tires mounted?
