Exhaust Opinions

Hello, I have an Eisenmann Race on my M6 now. It came with the car, I also have the stock mufflers. While I get giddy when I hear this exhaust, its VERY loud on cold starts and when "cruising", plus the highway drone. This is a daily driver for me, which includes an occasional passenger and a couple of kids in the back. Its a bit embarrasing at the office and in parking garages (lol).

I need something that is more "liveable" for a daily driver but sounds like the tubi / eisenmann I was looking to buy an M Performance exhaust for my M3 - sounds stock around town with zero drone, however it goes nuts when you get on it.

Anway, I know stock will be too quiet for me so I'm considering selling the Eisenmann to replace with something else. I've done a ton of searches, watched videos, and have it narrowed down to 2:

1. Tubi - I've read over and over there's NO drone. However how about cold-start and "cruising" at say 35 / 40 mph? I've watched the videos and it sounds "exotic".

2. Dinan - I've watched and read - sounds like this is the most "liveable" after market however it doesnt have that lambo / ferarri exotic tone that the Eisenmann or Tubi have.

3. Keep what I have - my wife claims I woke up the kids today. I think my ears were ringing from an hour of spiriting driving yesterday

I wish I could get a ride in 2 cars with these exhausts however its not that simple so I'm going with information gathering on these forums....

If anybody can chime in with their experiences that is helpful!

Thank you

I had Dinan cans on with headers and 100 cell racing cats and they were LOUD and droned as well, but I believe that was due to the whole set-up instead of just the cans. I am considering putting them on the stock car I have now, but am unsure of how loud they really are with that set-up. Let us know what you decide.

Keep the exhaust and get an ECU tune with the cold start cat heat delete.

Just what I did. I have Eisenmann Race exhaust with non-resonated SS Xpipe and with my Evolve tune I got cold start delete. So my early morning starts are very quiet now don't need to start the car and leave the area quickly to avoid disturbing the neighbors anymore.

Still though I'm waiting for Evolve to finish their e-tronic valve exhaust for the M6 so I can choose if I want quiet or loud mode with the push of a button. Once this is done then I will look to sell my E-race and I MAY also switch to resonated Xpipe depending on the overall volume.

Maybe for the present term you could look into replacing your E-race with E-sport and sell off your current mufflers or just get an ecu remap with cold start delete. Its got other benefits too other than this and the power surge but its also made my gear changes and drive a lot smoother.

Thanks for the suggestion -

1. Where do I get this done, and how much does it cost?

2. What are the drawbacks of doing this? I'm sure BMW engineered the car to work this way for a reason right?

Any reputed tuner can do this for you. All the advertisers on this board are quite good. You might want to check EuroCharged as well. I have been in contact with them recently for an ECU tune for my AMG and their service quality is really impressive.

The cat heat cyle is there to heat up the cats to reduce emissions. Cats don't work when they are cold. The car is very loud during this cat heat up. If you remove this, the noise on cold start will be about 80% less.

Whichever tuner you choose, make sure they can remove the cat heat cycle for you.

Not sure if you saw my post but the first video shows goes Tubi, Dinan, Eisenmann Race to compare the sounds.

"There is the best sounding one!"

I hear ya, the cold start is brutal loud. I'm lucky enough to not have to leave early in the morning so I'm not waking anyone up. I'll have to look into this Coldstart delete, what exactly is the tune doing to the car?

just an FYI, if your car is CPO be careful not to void this, as far as I know only Dinan after market parts including ECU and Exhaust are CPO friendly, others you will have to prove that it isn't the aftermarket parts that caused any warranty work which can be painful.
