Warranty question

I'm quickly approaching my original warranty expiration (36K miles/Oct exp) and have a few questions. I have been very pleased with my dealer, especially since I have many mods on the car and they don't complain when I take the car in for warranty items. Being in Hawaii, I don't have the option of going to another dealer anyways. They are selling the 7 year, 100K mile warranty for around $7,400. My questions are: Can I haggle that price? Am I able to shop around with other dealers out of state to buy a warranty? I'd like to go with my dealer since they've taken care of me, but that seems quite high. I am skeptical about going with a third party company as the car is modded and I don't need the hassle. I also don't want to piss off my dealer by going with someone else and then he starts being a PITA with my warranty claims. Any advice???

I was told to get mine extended it would cost around 1360 euro a year from the dealer which is about $1800. If you are only adding three years it seems a bit high, but does that include the free maintenance as well? If so, that may be the additional cost built in.

Nope, the maintenance plan is another $3K...

It does sound pricey. It can't hurt to ask if thy can do any better. Otherwise any dealer can sell the BMW warranty or you could go aftermarket. I went with
Carchex, but I understand that they are no longer writing our beloved beasts as they were not making money on us. They have made money on me so far, but I on with that.

I bought the Powertrain Plus for my M6 and think it to be a bad decision. It is not comprehensive (wheel-to-wheel) like a "BMW certified pre-owned" car would be. I had something go wrong with my throttle actuator (not cheap and a common problem with these Ms) and it was not covered under the Powertrain Plus warranty. It boggles the mind if you think about what the throttle actuator does (controls power flow), and how could such a thing not be covered under the "Powertrain" package. If you MUST have one to help you sleep at night, haggle the **** out of it. I paid $3,000 for a 3 year extension.

That's a lot. And I believe it's based on the original in service date of the car, so you're not getting seven ADDITIONAL years, just 7 total from the tmie the car was sold new.

There's no guarantee that mods won't hurt you with an ELW...personnel changes, zone inspector there to look at something, etc. I agree if you have good relationship AND service manager vouches that they will cover your car with its existing mods (in writing ideally), then that's the way to go if the price is reasonable.

Email me and I might be able to help you.

$7.4K is high. I would try and negotiate that down if you are really thinking about extended warranty.

Remember that everything in life is negotiable.

As you know, our M6 are not the most reliable cars on the road so CPO or 7 year warranty in my opinion is a great idea for peace of mind.

You should definately get the warranty. It sounds extremely expensive though although In the UK its approximately £950 a year. The warranty is usually very good and nearly everything is covered. Lets face it these cars are not very reliable and especially if you have SMG then its something you definately need to get!

I am currently waiting on feedback with my warranty claim on a clutch and this is the first time they are being a bit difficult with the claim so lets see. In general though they are usually pretty good.

Enjoy the beast and ensure you dont pay through the nose if it breaks down. A new clutch is over 2k GBP and gearbox 5.5 GBP. The side sills they refitted after the illumination stopped working was £750 GBP for the pair alone!

Definately get the warranty!
