Tell me about it. You'd figure BMWNA would own up to it by now... I just hope I get it all taken care of before my warranty runs out.

-Mark, I read Dan's story and it seems close to mine. Impulse is right. There has been a rash of these issues right at 35-40K miles. I'm hoping to find out what's going on with mine in the next day or two. I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE: Well, my normal SA was out for a couple of days and I got the car in with another SA a little early. BIG MISTAKE. This guy has had the car for two days now and is no where close to resolving the problem. He called me at the end of the workday yesterday and said they did a preliminary diagnosis and couldn't find the cause, but they'd jump on it first thing in the morning. I hadn't heard anything all day today, so I called my normal SA about 3:30 for an update. He was surprised that the other SA hadn't called me yet. He tracked him down and told him to call me. He didn't. An hour later, I called my normal SA again and he seemed floored that this guy hadn't contacted me yet. He tracked him down again and this time he called back within a few minutes. First thing he told me was that he had to put $40 of gas in it for the test drive. Great. I guess the 1/4 tank that was in there wasn't enough... Then he said they cleared the faults and as they were out on a test drive, the lights for the transmission fault came on again. OK , and then... And then nothing. That's all they did today. Clear the codes and take it for a ride. I asked why so little work and he said he had to wait on someone to take it out for the test ride. I said I could have came down and did that for him. He giggled-I didn't. He's suppose to call me by noon tomorrow with another "update". Stay tuned..

I guess I dont understand, all they need to do is pull fault codes and it will show which sensors are failing and if the SMG pump is failing and if it is - just get it replaced under warranty.

I think they like to test drive your car.......

Not sure what their deal is Dan. I think they just sat on it all day, cleared the codes and when the faults showed again, didn't know what to do. My patience is wearing thin.

Day 3 update. Nothing again... SA was suppose to call before noon and didn't tracked him down at 3pm. They updated the software and are waiting for someone to test drive to check for faults. I didn't want the software update. Why do they act like they don't know what the issues are when they have the stored fault codes? So my questions to you guys are:

1. If they do a "whole car update" am I going to lose my Evolve tune?
2. Am I going to lose my Euro SMG tune that I spent a couple of hundred bucks on from Vodyk?

I can reinstall the Evolve tune, but I have no way of reinstalling the SMG tune without sending back to Vodyk if that's the case.

And more to the point, I hope it is not really your SMG pump going out.

Can you re-install your SMG tune with a D-CAN cable (and the software from your vendor)? If so, I have a D-CAN cable which you can borrow. "M5Drifter" and I have both used it to program our cars so I know it works.

Thanks Mark. I don't think my Mac and I are savvy enough for the re-code. Vodyk can do it very easily, but I'm not sure what set-up he uses. There are several threads on it. It's all greek to me! I'll guess I'll have to look at my options if the tune is gone. He finally called at the end of the day to say that the update went through and cleared the engine management faults, but the SMG faults still remain. They said the car will be with them for awhile and are out of loaners. They're arranging an Enterprise rental tomorrow. He sent a PUMA request for further assistance. We'll see what happens next. BTW, the SA's name was VERNON.

Starting to sound like an SMG (pump, etc.) issue. Seems to be a lot of that going around, especially for M6s with a few years and a few miles. PUMA stuff unfortunately does take time. BMWNA only overlaps with Hawaii time for a few hours a day and they have to be contacted, then they get back to the dealership at best the next day, etc. And then once they finally authorize the parts and work, the dealership usually has to order in the parts.

Let me know if you get stuck and I'll let you borrow the Z4.

If you need to re-program your M6, I have a notebook (PC) already setup for this sort of thing.
