Put a deposit on an 08 M6 urgent questions :)

So this is an 08 19k miles for $46k. CPO through Aug 2014. SMG.

1. the steering wheel is very worn out and looks like crap. How much to replace this? I called a dealer and they quoted me $1000 I wont drive this car with an old worn out steering wheel.

2. CPO - I called my SA who I'm good friends with. He said the CPO will cover the entire SMG except for clutch wear / tear.

3. Brakes - the service in idrive states 36000 miles until the brakes are needed.

4. Price - I called my buddy who is a wholesaler - he said I'm paying retail. I feel there's value in the CPO. What is a good deal for this car?

5. Resale - I figure this car will depreciate by about $6k annual. Does that sound about right? I will keep the car perfect, and drive about 8k miles a year.

I need quick answers thanks everybody and looking forward to being a M6 owner

I had my steering wheel replaced no problem, mainly due to it being under the original 4 year warranty. If your friends with your advisor, shouldnt be an issue. Price is reasonable.
Brakes? May have been all highway miles thus indicating 36 left on them, or the previous owner used the heck out of them and they were changed not too long ago. Worse case, they just reset the brakes with no work done to them. Easy to tell if you remove the wheel and look at them though. You should observe lots of meat on the pads...Check the service record on the that vehicle too.

To answer question #1, you can replace it with an aftermarket steering wheel with a flat bottom for about $600.

DCT Custom Steering Wheel -IN STOCK!!!-

You are getting a great deal. I just got my 08 M6 three months ago with about 52K on it no warranty. My Transmission Malfunction yellow cog came on within a couple of days. Took it to BMW and my own mechanic and both confirmed everything is great on the car except the clutch which was slipping. The steering wheel should not be a big concern, but I will say $1,000 sounds about right with installation. You can probably find one for about $700 but you can get the alcantara custom carbon fiber wrapped ones online for about $1000-1300. I bought the extended warranty from a third party but it doesnt kick in until I drive the car a 1,000 miles but it covers everything after I replcae this clutch and flywheel out of pocket.

My clutch and flywheel are gone so BMW quoted me $4,800 for parts and labor for flywheel and clutch. I bought the clutch OEM from Sachs for $700 delivered next day. The flywheel is the most expensive part and it is $1,600 from MY BMW dealer. But I could not find anyone who had OEM LUK flywheels (which are just as good) in the US. So I ordered from Germany for $940 delivered. I will finally get the flywheel next week after looking for three weeks for anyone who had stock in the world.

The reason why I just gave my extended story is that this car is a great car other than the usual wear and tear on the clutch and flywheel. SMG pump failures are also a huge occurence in this vehicle including the Logic Unit for the audio. Just make sure you take the car through every gear on the highway (especially the higher ones) and see what happens when you push the pedal all the way down. You are really getting a great deal and would try and get a warranty through a third party or though BMW because you will DEF need it. You will love this car.

Was that the negotiated price? If not, see what you can get for the wheel replacement. Pull a wheel and check the pads, but even if they are worn it is an easy fix. The CPO is a great benefit. Overall it seems like a pretty decent deal.

Would this have been fixed under CPO? My SA told me that the SMG issues are all covered.

How old was your car when you had it replaced? Its not my SA's call but his boss.

This steering wheel could be a deal breaker for me. I will not drive an M6 with a raggy old steering wheel, and not likely I will spend $1k to add a new one.

My only options 1) get the dealer to replace it 2) have the seller pay for it

Yeah it should be covered. From other people in the forums though they have found the warranty does not cover the clutch though. The warranty I bought covers everything up to a blown up engine. I wouldn't really spend anymore money other than the CPO. I would try and negotiate that price maybe by 500-700 depending on the steering wheel being a deal breaker. You can easily replace the steering wheen yourself. Bimmian.com has some cool steering wheels.

Agreed. My SA said the clutch is not covered due to wear / tear. However if its bad due to other mechanical failure then it would be covered.
