I can't think of a scenario to which your flywheel would be worn out at 29K miles -- our beasts have a dual mass flywheel (DMF). Worn out would just mean "out of spec" and would usually surface as significant vibration at any RPM.
It's probably false economy NOT to replace the flywheel when you're already into a clutch repair but I'd be surprised if most E6x M5/M6s actually need a new flywheel at their first clutch replacement. I'm guessing there would be about a two-clutch replacement life to each flywheel in normal conditions.
That being said, in the event you don't replace the flywheel during a new clutch repair, you'd obviously want to have it checked over pretty thoroughly as a defective flywheel can damage a new clutch.
For those that are interested to know more about DMFs, I've attached a PDF to this post. It's from an aftermarket flywheel manufacturer (Luk) but it contains useful general information and the background on DMFs.

Bryan is so right !
Very well said and documented.

Actually, I just researched all of this when we had the Spec vs. CNC clutch discussion on the board last month, so it was fresh in my head and the DMF info was still on my desktop..
Don't forget me........ My "Transmission Malfunction" turned out to be the PLCD sensor (Permanent magnetic Linear Contactless Displacement) which seems is two parts, the clutch slave cylinder and the PLCD sensor. This tells the clutch where it needs to be and when (I guess). The shop also changed my transmission fluid and saved some of it for me to look at, or rather, feel. FULL of metal shavings !! A telltale sign of certain future costly repairs. This was all to the tune of $1550+tax out of pocket expense. This wasn't the $3500 smg pump or the $4500 clutch/flywheel issues which I'm afraid are on the horizon for these cars not to mention an $8800 failed SMG tranny all together. Future cash, I'm afraid, I'm not ready to spend on my M6, sad but true. I was a bit out of my league with this car from the beginning and now the added repair costs are sending ownership out the window for me. I'll be stepping down into a brand new fully loaded (AND WITH WARRANTY) 2012 135i with DCT. The car will arrive in about another week, and as long as the dealer doesn't stand in the way of the car deal, will be saying farewell to the M6. It's been an amazing car and this board has been a blast to work with. Special thanks going to Dan the Man in Seattle !! An avid "poster" and now an excellent moderator. I'm sure I'll post pics of the new "Lil Beast" when she arrives. Thanks again to ALL..... Jon
BTW The DCT (dual clutch) is really quite amazing to drive.... anyone have experience with one of these transmissions ??

So sad but true 110% what Jon said. This whole thing with the reliabilities issues, costing a shitload of dollars, is getting on
my nerves too.
Recently I had a problem with my PDC system. Long story short, they changed the eight sensors TWICE, the control unit in the trunk
twice and finally the whole harness of the PDC, bumper to bumper. So I take off, I go to wash the car and GONG - PDC malfunction.
F*ck. Back to the dealer.
I have never-ever seen such a stupid face looking at me. Like a cow getting f*cked.
" Maybe you should avoid washing your car sir ?"
Yeah sure, and next time I go to the bathroom I will not wash my ... Never mind !!!
I think I will drop the order I have for the F12 M6. I am getting back my down payment.

Join the club, I have canceled my order too. I am just not happy with BMW at the current moment and the direction they have taken. I am not a fan of the new styles or the thinking behind their technology.
This board is great though, everyone is full of knowledge and I love it. No matter what I drive, I will always read and post on this board.

Dustin, I am the kind of person that knows only white and black. Meaning I get enthused, but then I can turn around 180 degrees
if something breaks inside me. I rarely care about losses in things like cars.
M6 F12 order officially canceled.
The extended warranty I had for the M6 expired last month, and I am not feeling comfortable with what I read here.
I think I will trade it in and buy a Porsche GT3RS.
Go with the LP 570 It will run circles around the GT3 RS. You will look better running circles around it too because the car is amazing looking.
I already have two exotics. I do not need a third one. I want a reliable sports coupe, that I can use every day. Maybe even the GT3RS
is too much. Maybe a carrera 4s is an even better choice.
