Likely not. Perhaps they could supply us each with a custom fitted car cover...free.

If I were in your shoes, I would "threaten" legal action. They might not take you seriously but they tend to take lawyers a little more seriously.

Telling them this should at least get the ball rolling!

Oops, previous post was meant for "Jfloresfsu" not jsherid1.. Sorry! (It's one of those kind of days. The $630M lotto has my mind clouded!)

I was wondering about that...I was planning on threatening them in a way more befitting my Northern NJ Irish-Italian background.

They got in touch with me today, but they are saying they need to conduct an investigation. I have settled with insurance company. What liability do you think BMW is responsible for. I am requesting an incentive in the purchase of a new vehicle.

If they are only claiming 1 vehicle fire yet they are requiring an enormous recall like this, there must be a huge cover-up. fficeffice" />

I would request an incentive as well. You can’t expect a shiny new M6 but they should do something. You have had to deal with the loss of a beloved car, time away from work to deal with this, the hassle of dealing with insurance, a rental car since your only mode of transportation has been burnt to a crisp(they don’t need to know that you have more than 1 car!). And now you have to spend time looking for a replacement vehicle and spending money you had not planned to spend on something new. They need to understand that you have been extremely inconvenienced because of a defect BMW knew about long ago.

But to be honest with you, I would be surprised if they offered you any incentives at first. That is usually how these things work.
If they offer nothing at first I would play hardball with them. With an issue like this, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

At the end of the day, this is one of the major reason we all have insurance. When something like this happens it is nice to know our insurance company will take care of us. You didnt end of getting hurt. You vehicle wasn't parked in the garage when this happened and it is a material that can always be replaced.

This is just my 2cents!

I am sure everyone on the board will have a different opinion on what to do. It all comes down to personal choice on how you want to handle or look at your unfortunate situation you have been placed in.

I couldn't agree with you more. Although a new M6 would be nice. I have done a lot of research on this type of issue and I found that BMW is far from generous when offering incentives to compensate for inconviniences such as this one.

I checked mine today to see if it was lose. It was tight and the cover is in perfect shape. I have no problem keeping mine inside once I checked it. The bolt head is 13mm.

Thank you! And if this is the root cause of the issue - then its a simple check for any of us.
