I have a few friends with full wraps, and some partial wraps. I will have more direct experience soon, once mine is done. But I can tell you that scuffs are not an issue on the vinyl I have seen. Getting hit by a car or bike or something sharp can tear the vinyl, but the amount of impact to do that would also scratch your regular paint. To fix the tear, you would then have to replace that panel's vinyl. So I would say the vinyl isn't any more susceptible than paint is. In some cases, it might be better (the thickness of the vinyl will also make a difference here). As for edges and dirt, if the vinyl is applied correctly, I have not seen any edges come up on my friend's 2-year old job. The vinyl cleans just like paint, its just as impermeable as paint so it isn't like dirt gets "ground in" to the vinyl. Added bonus: you don't need to wax vinyl. Meanwhile, it provides a UV barrier for your original paint.

Most shops seem to tell you the job will last several years. I would imagine that with good care, it could last much longer. I plan on having the vinyl last 3 years and then maybe changing or going back to original color. I am told the vinyl can be removed without difficulty (by the right shop) and the original paint will not be impacted. It's just like putting on a clear protectant and I know from having those on my cars that they come off just fine when you're done with them, and they scratch less easily than paint.

Thanks for you input. Im considering doing this because I want to try and totally different look on my car and figure its a lot cheaper to go back to the original color after a while if I dont like it.

What color are you going with?

First, let me say it is for my daughter's car. With that said: Pink. Yeah, I know...

And therefore going back to the original color later is exactly what attracts me to the less-permanent vinyl process as well. When she is a bit older and wants a more sedate red Mini Cooper, we can just simply remove the pink vinyl. Viola! New car.
