Just did the primary cat delete. Over 50rwhp!

So ive been debating what to do. Go the headers route or not. My warranty wouldnt allow headers with no cats so my shop has done a few primary cat deletes and didnt notice a huge diff on the dyno for headers/no cats v.s. just cat delete.

A local guy has a bone stock M6 and just did the primary cat delete with a tune and char delete. Still stock exhaust. He dyno'd at 50rwhp over his base levels.

So I decided to do the primary cat delete. Its $1200 and they are going to put a sensor in temporarily so I dont throw a check engine light until i get my car tuned. The smg software upgrade is scheduled for monday then my very last step on the beast is a tune. My shop uses evolv and its $1k for the tune. Im not sure on who to go with on the tune though, but i'll shop around in the mean time. Anyway im super excited to see how the car performs now. The shop I go to has the good old hearbreaker Mustang dyno lol so it always shows lower than normal rwph levels but it will still be cool to see where im at. Not going to dyno it until the tune is complete. I dont have base #'s which kinda sux but it will still be interesting.

Reason why i went with the cat delete is b/c for one by a visual inspection you cannot tell anything as changed. It appears stock so if I have any warranty issues all i have to do take off my active autowerke exhaust and put the factory exhaust back on and im good. Im not due for smog for 2years so thats no problem, plus im sure it will be easy to find a hookup on beating the smog system. So basically only time i'll have to dish out some more $$ is when i sell the car. Im not sure if i'd sell it as is with my mods or I may be better off returning it to stock as it may sell better that way. In that case id have to either buy used headers or my shop can install passable cats back in place. I'll worry about that when the time comes

very interesting. nowadays a good tune can net you 30 rwhp. So does that mean the cat delete is giving you 20 horses? Also how are you doing the delete? are you cutting out the cat and welding in a reducer to the AA exhaust or are you simply gutting the primarys?
by the way i just got the eurocharged handheld tune and its rather easy to use. I had it on my 06'. I had it installed at a dyno day so i was fortunate to get a before and after and i netted 30 rwhp. This time i decided to get the handheld so i can put it back to stock when i take it into the dealer for service.

Thats really impressive, It just does not make sense 50rwhp only for cat delete, tune etc? If thats the case Im sure a lot of people here including me would go that route.

Please update when you do yours and tell us of difference in power.

Thanks

That would be incredible if you got 50whp for deleting the primary cats and for $1200 bucks that works out pretty well.

I'm not sure though, as most of the cattless headers claim less-more like 40whp? and that is with a tune.

Whatever you really do end up with-it will be a beast of an M6! So drive carefully big guy!

We shall see. Just ordered a Vbox so we can get some real data. I will get some base line numbers next week and then some data with the high flow cats and tune. I will also get the dynos too.

This is pretty sweet. Can you do is all a favor and get a baseline dyno and then a dyno after the cat delete? Also get details on how your shop is removing the cats. I'm sure it's going to be successful and many of us will want to do the same thing but if our local shops haven't done it before they may not want to tackle it unless they know how. Thanks in advance.

Unfort I wont be able to do the baseline b/c they already started the delete tonight. When i pick the car up tomorrow im sure i'll "feel" the amount of HP i gained. Im not sure on their method but I will ask if it was a simple gut of the primarys or not. Im pretty sure it was just a gut b/c they never mentioned adding anything. Also the stock M6 that gained 50rwph had the char delete as well. so thats what like 10rwhp. Im not sure how much of his HP came from the tune or from the primary cat removal but the guys at the shop said the primary cats on our car are very restrictive. Almost as if the car came detuned. Thats why its such a big HP gain from removing them. I guess his #'s make sense though if headers without cats claim a 40rwhp gain with a tune b/c he also had the char delete so that could add up to around 50rwhp. Im just curious what i'll be at with char delete, rpi scoops/block off plate/bmc filters, primary cat delete, plus active autowerke exhaust(no secondary cats) and a tune. Its funny b/c it sounds like I have a lot done but if anyone ask im just going to say intake, a tune and straight piping. Not many cars can gain upwards of 50-60rwph from just those simple little mods esp when your already putting out 500hp to begin with.

I have been ditering about this particular mod for a while now. As i have been tempted by Sal at evolve for their catless headers( stock conversion). But cannot justify the proce, so therefore, looking for the right people who can gut the cats out but apparently its just not as simple as that. You have to ensure the walls are not damaged, you cant cut at the cats, you will have to drill them out.

It is proven the cats are very restrictive hence freeing that extra power thats choked in the first place. Removing secondary cats will not make much difference at all.
Can you please tell me how the workshop went about gutting the cats out.

regards
