CCC Update ... is this normal

Had a quick search and couldn't see a great deal of info on it but my '05 m6 is running original ccc firmware and i have just bought the iPod retrofit and i have been told the ccc needs updating to a newer software build which is fine so i agreed to that and having a complete unit update at the same time... but they told me that it is possible for the CCC unit to die during the update and it would then need completely replacing... is this common? do they 'DIE' a lot ..? i agreed to it as they are a dealer and id hope they know what they are doing, just a little worried....

I agree.
Find a dealer who will take responsibility for their work.

The two large ones in my area and the Indy I use all said the same and it's only regarding the ccc module... Anyway it's done now and it was fine!

Yes, it could happen without any reason. Not very often, but during last 3 yrs i have updated maybe 100 ccc's and maybe 2 or 3 times had issues with them. Sometimes it will die completely and dealer would be unable to reflash it manually, sometimes after restart it's visible for ISTA/P and could be reflashed again.

Go for it.
