Uh oh, my new laptop that is supposed to arrive tomorrow has Win 7 64 bit OS.

Should I uninstall 64 bit and install 32bit OS instead?

It's a free download direct from Microsoft:

Windows Virtual PC: Home Page

I know that Virtual PC is available for Vista from that link, but not sure if it has an XP mode like the Win 7 version.

The virtual PC is excellent in XP mode, really nice. Works incredibly well. I have configured TIS, INPALOAD and NCSEXPERT all absolutely fine. If you go to that link once you have the laptop, and download the virtual PC with XP mode, its got a full version of XP wrapped up in to it, so its like having a standalone XP install inside Windows 7.

Thanks for the offer, but I can fix the computer
This is just another time consuming task...

Regarding OS;

As an FYI, I believe you have all confirmed what I recall reading about NCS Expert. It is written for a 32bit OS only. I know it works with XP and WIN7, so Windows Virtual PC should work for 64bit and Vista boxes

As an aside, I spent some time yesterday with a fellow member on his 2010 E63. The coding modules and lines of code are a little different than pre 2010 MY. So those that may have a 2010, post any issues, if you need assistance.

We were successful getting everything previously written working except VIM (Video in motion), but we think we know what the resolution is. We were able to get outside mirror folding with the key fob AND the door handle (assuming you have comfort access). That was a nice find. I, just last night, enabled the door handle option on my '07. Still learning more and more...

I have not received the cable yet but have a 2010 with comfort access. Are most of the lines of code the same or are there vast differances? Also, very interested when you get the VIM working. Thanks.

The changes for MY 2010 are not significant. The biggest change is the module called CAPPL does not exist on 2010's. It is replaced with a module called CIC (your newer NAV and iDrive controller). Within that module some of the lines of code are named differently than pre 10's.

example. The Legal Disclaimer line of code is not 'legal_discl", it has a different name and a different change from and to beneath it.

The VIM actually worked but when you let the car sit and restart the changes did not stay. We think we know why and will experiment later this week. the requirement for the ebrake is no longer a requirement. That was easy. Everything else is pretty much the same in other modules. your iDrive is awesome now that I've seen it in action. Makes me want to upgrade to Patrys retrofit, albeit pricey.

It will be a fun project for you Randy. I have to assemble a spread sheet with the differences for everyone.
