Care for Convertible Top

Hi All,

I pickup my M6 in a few days. Can't wait... I want to keep it in great shape so I'm wondering if anyone with a vert has advice on taking care of the convertible top? Any products you recommend for cleaning / treating the top? Any special care instructions? I read the manual but it didn't provide much info on care for the top.

TIA...

One point to note, M6 convertible roofs are very sensitive! Any weight placed on it, even something like a heavy-ish book, may affect the alignment and therefore mess up the opening-closing mechanism. I have had a lot of issues with my roof, have had to take it 4 times to the dealership in the past year to re-align it and its frustrating. Avoid trying to open and close the roof on a windy day, or when the car is on a slanted road or when in motion even.

Sometimes I regret ever buying a convertible M6. Great thing is you can hear the wonderful engine and exhaust note when the top is down, also great to enjoy warm sunny afternoon cruises. So I don't mean to freak you out, don't get me wrong, its a fantastic machine, but when you put the top down and drive to a popular nightclub and park round the front at around midnight and want to close your roof so you can carry on your evening indoors and the roof decides to shut half-way and then jams on you refusing to continue closing or to even open again, what can you do! Roof is sticking up in the air so you can't exactly drive, you can't call the dealership because theyre closed, you can't leave the car like that because it'll get stolen.... you're stuck. Happened to me before and its no fun.

I don't know if all cabrio owners have had similar stories, but just a word of advice, you need to take extra care of it and be careful when using it.

Regarding general care, I use a product that I bought from the dealership for soft-top cleaning and maintenance and it has def. maintained the showroom look despite the occasional parking in the sun.

Congrats in advance and I'm sure you'll enjoy your new purchase.

What's the soft top cleaning product you picked up from the dealer? I will not be garaging my car, but still want to protect it as much as possible. I'm thinking of getting a car cover... ;)

Looks great, I'm getting ready to order now. Do you use it on our drop-top? Should I entertain using a convertible top cleaner from the dealer?

And do you guys know of a great overall car care checklist I can print/follow to ensure I maintain my vehicle in peak condition for many years? I have the one that came with the vehicle documentation, but I'd love to get my hands on something the guys here have assembled!

Thanks again!
