Car drivable without wheel housing cover?

Hi all

Have a question for those experts here.

Last night, I drove into a medium-sized pot-hole as it was dark and didn't see it. Since then there has been this tinkling sound coming from underneath the car when i drive it.

So took it to dealership earlier today and they lifted the car and showed me the dangling part from the wheel housing cover of my front right wheel and the underneath cover for the engine is also cr@cked (why is this word censored?) as a result. Now they have had to order those parts for me of course costing me around US$ 400 which is great of course, and they said it would take 2 weeks to arrive from Germany as they don't have those parts in stock surprise surprise.

Just for now, they removed the part of the wheel housing cover that was loose and flapping so the noise stopped. But the area is still cr@cked and now since they removed that part, theres a decent sized hole. Mechanic told me that I could still drive the car temporarily maybe for 2 or 3 days but doesn't recommend that I overdo it as stones and other items may enter the engine area through the open hole.

Penny for your thoughts? Anyone have similar issues? If so, did you still drive the car?

Use some duct tape to patch the hole. This will keep rocks out of the engine bay, until the new parts arrive
Duct tape saves the day again
