BMW doesn't know what's wrong with my car!

I took my car into the local BMW dealer on Wednesday due to reduced engine power, smg fault, emissions fault, and some other fault all at the same time. Today I call them and they still don't know what is wrong with the car. They said they have to fly someone down from New Jersey to find out what it is?? Anyone had this problem in the past where they bring someone from BMW HQ to look at it?? They said they have the motor apart down to the crank shaft and past the valves but still no clue....sounds interesting. Hope they fix it soon. I have only had the car for 2-3 months and this is the second time in the shop! What happens if the car is a lemon? Not sure, but I assume they would have to buy the car back according to NC law after 15 business days in the shop? I still love the beast so I would try to find another one. I am sure they wouldn't replace it for me with another one would they?? He mentioned a whole new motor...that is what scared me. Maybe he was joking but didn't sound like it...

Did you hear any noise from the engine bay? By what you said I'm gessing you didn't and it's probabbly is something electrical and may even be very simple; if you can have the car replaced with a new one it would be good but in anycase BMW is excellent with their warranties...

No noise at all. I assume it is some electrical malfunction, but the service guy didn't think so. I know it didn't blow a rod or anything like that. I had a leak in the convertible roof when I first got it, but it shouldn't have gotten into the engine bay area.

Good to know they are excellent with their warranties. I just hope it is resolved soon and can get me back on the road. I am also guessing it is rare to have any buy backs with these cars. I also doubt it would be beneficial to replace the whole engine. That seems extreme to me. If they want they can replace it with a 5.7 liter Dinan

Called today and told me that it is the ignition module...they think. I guess we will find out tomorrow if this is the case. I am keeping my fingers crossed but it doesn't make sense why that would put the car in limp mode considering it starts fine. I can't find any posts about other E60/63's with this problem in the past.

hey i think i know what it is when i changed my air intake to the typhoons there is a sensor which plugs into the tube basically that is loose so i had my engine malfunction come on and after i restart the car it goes off but sometimes the emissions light comes on after words and that only happened once i switched my air intake and my mechanic unhooked the cable to screw in the pipe so i think thats your problem let me know if you fiddle around with that sensor which is covered in rubber about an inch long changes anything

My car was fixed last week. It was actually the ignition module that had to be replaced. I think that code can be thrown for 100 different problems though lol.
