Check Engine sign ligts up on M6

Well, a few days ago the Check Engine sign came on... the car worked just fine, no difference whatsoever... It went off after one hour and stayed like this for a week, off.

Today it came on again, but turned off after 30 minutes.

What is happening ?

Also, the headlights became foggy, the left one, and now the right one. I had to change the left one because it got killed by the moisture... now the left adaptive xenon module went down because of the same reason...

Is this a common issue, or it is just my bad luck ?

Any opinions guys ?

I am geeting sick of all this problems.. maybe I will switch to Porsche GT2 next year.

There are many reasons a check engine light can come on, even if you don't close your hood completely. I would have your dealer check it. As far as the headlight problem you are having, it is not a normal problem. And yes Porsche makes a great car too.

BTW, did you buy your car new?

I bought it at 12.000 miles, still in waranty, basically new... This fog inside the headlights apeared for no reason, ther was no bumping no nothing, first the one in the right, then the one in the left.

I've paid for one headlight 2.400 USD , and now i must pay the same for the one in the right... it is unbelivable in my opinion, for 2 headlight to brake down because of the misture, within 4 months. I will e-mail BMW in Germany.

The guys from my local BMW Service, are blaming the manufacturer, factory defect etc... I am very disappointed.

Since I had the car, i've changed the SMG, Clutch 2 times, Differential etc, and now I am changing body parts ??? c'mon

If you didn't buy the car new then how do you know it wasn't abused? The headlights could have been messed with, even taken apart and not put back together properly. The headlights are sealed units and if taken apart and not baked (remove all internal moisture) before reassembling they will forever after fog up at certain temperatures

If your dealer service guys are really blaming the manufacturer than they would be having BMW pay for the problems! There are many ways a dealer can get cars in and out of warranty service paid for by BMW if they really are to blame. If they are not covering this under warranty then they are giving you BS (blaming the manufacturer), while lining their pockets with your money.

Well, the car was bought from the same BMW dealer I am using for service operations, the history of the car was clean... But, who knows, maybe you are right, allthough I had the car for 2 years know, and I never had this problem before. Anyway, I will change this headlight, as I did with the other one and end this. There is no point in "debating" with BMW Dealer, they will allways think of something to exclude warranty

I guess this "practice" is international so... whatever.

You mean BMW didn't cover a factory defect? I'd write customer service at BMW corporate and send receipt and pictures I bet they well refund you the money. I did that with a defective tyranny in a Chrysler one time and they sent my money back.

No, they did not cover this, i was pressed by time, because I needed to drive the car somewere and did not had the time to argue.

You think I can still make a complaint at BMW, and maybe get a refund ? Hmmm, interesting.

I would think it certainly worth a try. My tranny was repaired by a Certified Chrysler Tech that was working in his father's shop part time and Chrysler still refunded me the money. I showed them the defective parts and the fact they had up graded that parts the following years I showed them the consumer report article that said those parts were at issue. Just be as detailed as possible and take picture of you current problem and send copies of all receipts. They probably want you for a repeat customer. Send it to their corporate customer service. Its good business to fix defects like this on high dollar cars with smaller market shares.
