I'm not sure how private party sales prices (per Kelly Blue Book) compare to wholesale, but it should be in the ballpark:
2007 BMW M6 - Private Party Pricing Report - Kelley Blue Book
BTW - if the residual value of the car is at or above the market, BMWFS will sell the car to you dealer for the residual. The dealer then tries to sell it at a profit. If on the other hand the market wholesale price is less than residual, the dealer will decline to buy the car from BMWFS and it will go to auction. The dealer will then try to still buy the car but at the lower market price.
I know this as my 2006 645Ci went this route 16 months ago. But the used car manager at my BMW shop was on his cell phone and missed it when my car came up for auction and he did not get it. He had hoped to get the car but for $8000 less than the residual as the market was crap in June 2007 due to the fuel prices and the economy.
Good luck.
