Your RPMs are higher than normal, and the car is moving slower than normal.

For example some basic clues are if you try to accelerate and the engine speeds up and then feels like the car is catching up with the engine or if you are climbing a hill and you can feel the clutch slipping. You can also tell if the clutch is slipping if you shift to a higher gear too soon and the engine accelerates but the car does not.

That is absolutely correct.

You step on your gas, the engine revs to a higher RPM but the car is not going any faster = worn clutch.

The primary reason I went with SMG. M6 - 6 speed transmission and clutch I understand is weak.

That may be it, but I can't pinpoint the problem. Is there any adjustment that can be made to the clutch?
The car seem a bit sluggish when first pulling out cold. I have to study the rpm versus speed.
Additionally, since getting her back from the dealer, there is a tapping and clacking noise from the valve cover on one side.

Any ideas?

Regarding the clanking noise, that sounds like you could have a problem with your "Vanos", do a search in the forum and you wont be happy. It is a common problem among the few problems there are with these cars. I hope you are covered with warranty or insurance otherwise it could be costly if you want to get rid of the noise. Usually its just noise and dosen't cause any harm, but in some cases it can be bad and need fixing right away.

Normally you do not adjust the clutch on a modern car, if its gone its gone. I have heard about M5's SMG with clutch replacements after less then 50.000km so it can happen quite early if you have driven hard or had bad luck of buying a car that has been driven hard.

the noise on the one bank is 4 weeks down time. make sure you like the loaner they give you. request they order the pump and the internal oil lines at the same time. you might be able to shave 1 good week.

I have been experiencing (in the morning when car is cold) some delay in the first gear as well. not slipping, but not gripping as quick and as soon as before.... the car has 17,000 miles.

Fastoli...4 Weeks Wha wha whatttttt?
The loaners my dealer has are shitty 3 series.

I have to study this carefully. Your description sounds a bit like my problem. I feel like there is a slight loss of power and there is a noise near the passenger side valve cover. (usually at startup-cold) Additionally, there seems to be a wet spot on the black plastic cover. (see attached photo).

What do you think I am in for?
