Smokin Joe, mines the same it's right on the seam so the stitching has frayed and the top layer of black laquer (the smooth outer layer) has gone leaving a charcoal swade finish... replacement is the only way to go!

Keng1, I thought the same lol! but when I looked what was happening properly it's every time you get in and out the seat belt rubs over the bolster and because the stitching is smack bang in the middle of this area there the problem! Nylon on Nylon is a big no no.

Just got the call from my dealer. They agreed to replace the leather seat cover completely.
It has to be flown in from Germany though so it's a 2 week wait. No problem as long as I get my ride back while the sun is blasting.
The design of the stitching almost guarantees its going to be a wear point. I also got the sueding issue there. At least BMW is standing behind this and making it right.
If yours is wearing thin, and its still under warranty, bring it in.

Funny I got a totally different response from BMWSF when I took my car in for a service. They say its wear and tear and therefore not covered by the warranty. I even told them that even though my car is a 2008, its barely a year old with 6K miles on it and shouldn't have this kind of wear on it.

Typical answer. I'd be seeing the Service director and the dealership owner and if that doesn't help - hey BMWNA !!!!! There is no way it should wear like that!

Keng1, I agree with Snowball. $120K car has a seat that wears out in 1-2 years. Keep after the Service Manager and Sales Department at your dealer. I think some service reps are better than others at wording the defect in the right way to get it covered. Let us know how you made out. (and who you made out with!)

Here to report that I got denied at the dealership and I have one of the best SA's around too. He told me that he could get it re-dyed but not replaced. Oh well.
