im switching over to the MAS granturo s at the end of this year. it's a '06 thus the warranty has been up for quite some time now. my cars been carefully driven and well taken care of but small problems have been occuring. in other words, it's sorta becoming a hassle. plus that damn maserati is just too good looking of a car. bordering on a piece of art imo. i'll miss dearly the viciousness of the s85 but it's like they say, "we dont reside in a perfect world'.

How can you describe the diference in power between the Grantourismo S and the M6?
Drastic?
just a little down on top end?
Is is all around the rev range???
i have numerous mods on my e63. it's fast. real fast. i haven't tested a actual gran turismo s but i've driven it's baby brother the normal gran turo. let me jsut make one thing clear, although both cars are categorized as "GT's" the difference is quite substantial. whether low end or high end my m6 is alot faster. alot faster. albeit, the S version has some minor upgrades and a few more ponies i just dont see it keeping up. i guess the perks are different, the gran turo s supposedly handles quite well, so i guess in that category it might trump the M6. the built in 20 gig hard drive that essentially makes the gran turismo's a ipod that does 180mph is a awesome feature. two tone stitching etc...i guess at the end of the day, the gran turismo is so nice of a car you wouldn't want to be passing people too fast so they could get a good look at who's driving it. versus the M6 being the quintessential playground bully...

I have a colleague (orthopedic surgeon) who has one, and loves it. Albeit, he has quite a few nice cars (F430, Alpina Z8) to name a few. It is nowhere near as quick as the M6, but the craftsmanship, the interior, the smell of the leather, all first rate Italian. I guess it depends what you are looking for. He spent about $20k more than a M6, but again it is not all about price. The handling is close, the GTS may feel a little tighter in the steering, but once you get going at freeway speeds, I am not so sure. The problem is very few vehicles in its class (GT class, M6), have the combination of luxury, reliability, and performance. Yes, a 911 turbo is faster, yes so is a GTR, but as a daily driver, with the service BMW gives you, no contest. Oh and service on the Masserati, hah, not even close and ridiculously expensive. Just ask the dealership what an oil change costs.
Peace

From personal experience (being on my 3rd Quattroporte now) they are good cars - solid and look/sound amazing and perform alright (could be better performance-wise).
BUT, you need to have the patience of a Saint and deep pockets too. So far I've just traded up to every model around 1 month before my warranty expires so that I don't get slapped with massive service and parts bills. Next week I will be looking at a new '09 QP GTS which is arriving at the dealership and may trade-up again (because my car has been in the dealership for 2.5 weeks now and only today they called to tell me that a part in the steering wheel needs to be replaced and they have just placed an order for it from Italy). =(
And this is where the M6 stands out from the rest (forget speed and handling, performance, etc...) but RELIABILITY.

Exactly. I drive my car 9 months of the year. Have put 53k miles on it in 3 years, at all times of day and night (sometimes have to go in to hospital at 3am) in rotten Michigan weather, and guess what, my car has started right up and taken me there and home safely every single time. Not one unscheduled service visit (other than minor trim or software updates done at oil services). It is an amazingly dependable car for something as complex and high performance as it is.

I believe we have reached a verdict for this thread then! A suitable replacement for the M6 would have to be...... the M6! or an M5 if you want to start a family.

I have decided!
I am keeping mine until the next M6 is out.
I have only done 20K miles in 3 years from new.
Even if I was to trade for a 1 year old model it would still have something like 20k miles, so I have booked it in
for a respray for the bonnet and bumper ( chips not parking scratches ) and I will also get the wheels refurbished at the same time.
It will look like new and my warantee can be extended up to 5 years, so I should be covered.
you guys all have solid points. but to say every M6 is reliable is like saying all people naturally run at the same speeds. dont get me wrong, i love my car...it's served me well and faithfully for the past three years. BUT, when i first picked up the car, 3 weeks into it. a rubber ring of some sort associated with the fuel tank had a malfunction. i was literally leaking fuel. did not dare to smoke a cigarette in the car to say the least. then i had issues with my i-drive and my cd player kept jumping around like it was possessed. then some charger associated with the battery broke and i had about 300+ CEL's in two days. luckily most were covered by warranty except the most recent issue with the charger. cost me around a thousand bucks to replace it. hence, my decision to get rid of the M for a brand new MAS. i dont doubt for a second that i will miss my M once its gone...but practicality calls.
