1200 miles done...question about the service
A month and 4 days later, and I am finally at 1200 miles! It seemed like forever. I am taking it in on Saturday for the service. My question is in regards to what I should be expecting of the dealer? What do they do exactly for the 1200 mile service? (I searched by the way, and only found vague responses)
The reason I ask is because this is how my service appointment phone call went:
Me: "Hello, I'd like to schedule my 1200 mile service for my M6"
Operator: "Thank you, but the first recommended service for a BMW is between 12,000 and 15,000 miles"
After I got finished explaining to her that she was wrong, she finally scheduled me. This scares me because it makes me feel that they don't know what they're supposed to be doing. So if someone can clue me in on EXACTLY what they should be doing, I'd greatly appreciate it.
P.S. I know I owe you guys some pictures of the "space gray" beast. They are coming, I promise.

oil, diff, tranny done.
FYI: the 1200 mile service is not set in stone. Mine asked for service at 800 miles. I have seen others ask for it at 1300 hundred.

The operator isn't familiar with the M6 run-in procedure. The 1200 mile service is just an oil change. The oil used for the run-in process is a lot less viscous.

Some dealers just change the engine oil, and call that the 1200 mile service
These things should be done:
1. Change engine oil and filter
2. Reset Condition Based Service (CBS). Read this post:
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...66&postcount=1
3. Change transmission fluid
4. Change differential fluid

Diff and Tranny change is part of the service.
Go back to dealer and make them change the other fluids.

+1 This is what they did at my dealer, plus the DME is updated to let the car know the 1200 mile service is complete, so any restraints that had been software held back are taken away.

This is a myth that needs to die. There are no software restraints, no software tell tales that store information that shows if you go to redline before the 1200 mile service you void the warrenty, nothing like that.
Right off the bat at 1 mile on the ODO you can go to reline and 155mph.

Not a myth - launch mode was not available on my M6 until after the 1200 mile service and the tech updated the DME.

soooooooo..... which is it?. are there software restraints or not? I'm taking it in tomorrow morning and want to walk in educated .
Sounds kind of odd that there'd be such a thing as software limitations, because it seems that they could very easily forget about it and then you're stuck without launch control for the rest of the time in your car!@?
But, what do I know?
