Dinan 5.7 Stroker or ASR NOS?

I have that mod bug going. There's not much left for me to add as far as bolt on's go. I am realing considering the Dinan 5.7. I was also thinking about the ASR setup which without a doubt is going to make the car run much faster. I am uncomfortable with adding NOS because one, I think it degrades the car and It wouldn't make me feel a true winner after I would smoke everything on the road. I am not saying anything bad about what ASR has done, I know for a fact that there setup hands down with turn my M5 into the fastest on the road. I also have feers of blowing the motor. Even set up correctly NOS can blow your motor on the first shot. I am leaning my decision toward to Dinan motor. I know I won't beat a M5 with nitrous, but I can feel a winner when a take down a car and know that I'm pushing pure HP. If a car with nos beats me I don't feel like a loser, I feel great knowing that without that NOS that guys pushing he has no chance against a V10 with raw power. I think if I get the motor and all its componets I will use my current exhaust set-up, and I hope I will be able to add my SS headers to the motor. Now that could turn out more power than Dinan says. I would even call AA and see if they could custom tune the 5.7 for even more power.

The motors very expensive. I do think it's worth the money. With that motor tuned properly with ss headers and some extra goddies it would own the streets. Making my M the ultimate beast!

After speaking with Dinan I was told none have been done on the east coast. I think he said he heard of Three in the whole country are on order. I can have it by march. Should I do it? I would really like some good advice

I find it hard to understand why you would do such extensive modifications when your only parameter appears to be speed. You could easily buy the MB SL600 (?) bi-turbo and keep your warranty. Or even a used Ferrari. The new Corvette has something like 600+ hp for 100k. The reasons most of us buy our M6s (5s) are power AND looks and comfort and handling. To create such a monster takes away from that IMO and is a waste of money. If money is no object than use NOS. Remember, like an inground swimming pool at your home, those mods get you nothing on resale.

If you got the 5.7 stroker you'd have a very unique car. The cost
ensures exclusivity. Honestly, if money was not an object, I would go
for the stroker. You would have to watch out for the NOS guys though.
With NOS you really don't have to watch out for anyone.

I'd love to see a board member get the stroker.

I agree with gustav. Its a tough call. My main concern with the NOS is blowimg the motor. I don't care how it's setup. DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE THATS SAYS IF IT's HOOKED UP RIGHT YOU WON'T BLOW THE ENGINE! EVEN HOOKED UP PROPERLY THE MOTOR CAN BLOW AT ANY SECOND. If ASR will warrenty my engine for 4 years 50,000 miles after install them maybe I would consider the NOS. Whats the chances of that?

LOL, if that were the case everyone on the board would have done it already. Certainly everyone in New York anyway.

Even Dinan won't do that. I believe they'll give you the remainder of your existing warranty or two years.

But a crank, pistons, rings, rods, gasket kit and 40 hours labor, $44,000! That's just a little high for my wallet. But I'll be the first to tell you that, that's factory. It'll feel tuned real smooth. The extra money in this price includes engineering and testing. Someones going to pay for this. Just not me. When the price comes down a little, I'll be there. To me this job is worth $30,000. Some one else will sell a kit that does just this one day and it'll be a lot cheaper. Those blocks can easly handle 700HP when turned down on the RPM's.
