If you want to watch the videos first before reading my review and outcome of the races go ahead and do so.
Here is my review:
1ST RACE:
Both races were a complete brawl - I mean CLOSE as HELL - well.....sort of...........the 1st race was a dead heat all the way up to 120-130 (I was a bit off in calling out my speeds during the video - but you guys can see that we were both RIGHT NEXT to each other! Before the ZO6 got out of 4th gear, I had him by about 2 car lengths. Due to the angle, (I know it seems like his nose was at my bumper which would seem like 1 car length) this was really about 2 cars lengths of distance. Another interesting point: if you closely watch the ZO6's head lights as he shifts into 5th, you will see his car fall back due to gearing (this occurs just after I call out "160" mph in the video) In this race the ZO6 hits 160 shortly after I do and then shifts into 5th and starts to lose ground fast. As a few ZO6 owners said, the car doesn't pull as strong at the first shift into 5th cause it drops a bit low in the RPMs. Thats when I started to pull on him pretty hard. So from 120-160 I pulled about 2 cars in this race. We did another run (off video) where I actually began to inch away around 110.
2ND RACE:
Since the camera is shooting from the ZO6 this time, the "sights" are on the M6 for this run. In this race, the instant we hit the throttle in 2nd, you can see my car shift IMMEDIATELY into 3rd. At the top of 3rd gear I begin to inch on the Vette barely. That actually is at about 90-100 mph. Then some more as I get deeper into 4th. And even more with each up shift. When the Vette hits 5th right at 160mph. I was 3 car lengths ahead. Once I hit 195 mph, I hit the breaks. At 195, there were approx 10 car lengths of distance between us.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main goal here was to be ahead of the ZO6 by 160 mph (that is, before it shifts into 5th). MANY throughout this board as well as several corvette boards said the M6 would be annihilated. Evidently, this did not occur. The M6 beat the ZO6 to 195. It also beat the ZO6 to 160. This happened in both races.
Granted, the ZO6 is stock. But its STILL BLAZING FAST in stock form. And as I said before, the reason why I chose a stock ZO6 is because it has been an "icon" car - pretty much the quickest accelerating car on the planet in its class. The C6 ZO6 Beats the new Porsche 997 turbo, the Ferrari F430, and in many videos even runs side by side with the Ford GT Supercar. Bottom line, to RUN WITH or BEAT a C6 ZO6 in stock form is an accomplishment. To do this with an M5, M6 or any other car for that matter, modded or not is BIG in my book.
Some may also say I only trapped 120-121 mph at the end of the 1/4 mile in my car. With that said many believed that a ZO6 would prevail in a drag race. But many failed to realize that my car spun 1st, 2nd and a bit into 3rd when running through the 1/4 mile. My time results at the track have always suffered.
To compare the way a car will perform on street race is completely different then examining dyno charts and comparing 1/4 mile results that happen on different tracks and in different parts of the world. There are simply too many conditions and variables that can skew projections on "which car will win a race".
The best way to see the true potential of two cars is to run them side by side in an organized drag race, do your best to eliminate driver error and hold out the throttle in every gear to see which car prevails.............and in this case, it was the M6.

Finally Found a Stock C6 ZO6 to Race

quick question, why start at 47 mph? did the z06 start in 1st gear or not? not questioning the validity of the results just wanna know why these particular parameters? i've mentioned a while back that in my m6 (see T-Bone) that at pretty much any speed after 220 km/h the m6 holds its own against a stock z06 and pulls significantly thereafter (240ish onwards). i now own an 07 z06 and i'm wondering if anyone on the board wants to do some runs and video them like keith has. location would be anywhere from hamilton to toronto. anyways, great vids and safe driving out there!
