M6 hit and kileld a motorcyclist and crashed against a tree
A light weight motorcycle (50 cc) crossed a road, got hit by the M6. The 18 year old boy on the motorcycle died at the scene of accident
The M6 hit a tree after hitting that boy.
He had two kids in the car, 9 and 17 year old. He must have been speeding, skidmarks of approx. 80 meters (approx same as 80 yards) on the road.
Alll three in the car were lightly injured.
There is also a video, click on the bold link just above the thumbnails in:

Thats really bad..
Looking at the drivers side rear quarter panel, the hit was quite severe..
To have to live with that will be very hard i guess
It says that the driver is apprehended as suspect in the case, the motorcyclist crossed the road ( which seems like one of those feared B-roads in the south of Holland, where little lighting and winding corners are very likely causes of accidents..
Presumably, the motorcyclist crossed the B-road ( prohibited unless in a special crossing area, which might be the case as one only sees the M6 80 yards further down the road and not the place of accident) and could not evade the M6.. Maybe due to excessive speed, maybe not..Who knows?
Strange thing is that the car has ABS, so how can it leave 80 yards of skidmarks?

that was my first reaction too.. Very strange. With the abs on and full braking, he could hold the car on the rood one would think..

ABS brakes still leave skid marks.....not the long black ones but rather they look like the type of skid marks that a trailer on a big truck leaves when the brakes lock....there are skips in the skid marks and not so noticable on cars.

T bone
I used to work in a damage repair business and I have been towing quite a few cars off the accident scene.
I have seen intermittant skid marks caused by ABS, but the newer systems are a lot less prone to causing this. The systems have improved their responsiveness to the lock-up, i.e the car is only locked up in brakes for particles of a second.
Try a new MB on full ABS from, say, 150mph and you will see virtually no skid marks.
My brother and me tried to record braking distance from several cars we owned back then to see which was the best. At that time I had an E38 , we used to slam the cars into the brakes at 80 mph and all you could hear from the 7 was this turbine-like wine but ZERO lock up. Note that I obviously was braking like lightningstruck here. We repeated this several times untill the actual rotors were starting to light up ( well they had to be replaced the next week anyways!) so I doubt anyone in a traffic situation will easily match that.

I hear ya but I remember watching a show about accident recreation where they still looked at skid marks in the ABS era....
Here is a pic...

BTW, I grew up tracking cars with no ABS and no traction control.....threshold braking is a lost skill.

That indeed is very true.
Best way to learn is ultra-narrow Dunlop Racings

Hitting a tree a high rate of speed would have caused more damage than that. It doesn't seem he was going that fast. Remember, BMW's are supposed to take the impact of the crash, so the front will easily crumple.
