Modified M6 spinning tires in 3rd gear?
in my m6, i have the supersprint headers/x-pipe, eisenmann race exhaust, and AA ecu...i also have on some michelin ps2's, which i was under the impression are good tires...however, ive found that if i am in 3rd gear, dsc off s6 and i punched it, though i obviously start moving very quickly, i can feel my tires spinning underneath the car all the way through 3rd, into 4th gear...it does it so much that i almost never change lanes when this goes on, as i dont feel completely comfortable about the level of traction im getting...my tires are not overly worn, so its not because i have balding tires...does anyone else have this problem, and if so what did you do to correct it?

I would say that this is pretty expected given the mods. Any 500 hp + car that you stomp on should spin it's tires with the traction system off. Doing it through fourth suggests to me that you should modulate the throttle a bit more when you drive PS2's are almost unanimously the favored tires for this and any other M-Car for that matter. Try using M-Dynamic mode and stop flooring the car all the time. If your tires are not yet bald, they will be if you keep it up!

on certain roads or just in some areas of the country it's not going to matter what tire you have, the roads just aren't conducive to great traction...vegas for example. in my area i can take some roads and get great traction while i can get on others and spin the tires at any speed under 60mph.
on a side note, when you're done with the ps2's and want even better traction try the toyo t1r's. after dumping the ps2's i've discovered the t1r is an all around better tire at half the price! btw, i'm not alone in that opinion.

Something sounds amiss to me.
I would guess it's your road surface, or possibly tire inflation (too high) or maybe even alignment. No way the M6 should be breaking traction all the way up to 120 mph in 4th gear. Just not gonna happen on a reasonable road surface in a straight line with a 550 hp 3800 lb car. With the PS2's properly set-up, if you're breaking traction just at the shift point from 3rd to 4th, you're doing great.
Of course if you're tweaking the steering a bit when you shift and getting the car a little sideways, then anything can happen...

I have the same problem, especially when merging into traffic on highway. When I have it in m mode mdm I also feel the rear end waiving back and forth like the computer is trying to adjust. Its a little scarry. When it first happend to me I took the car back to bmw and the rep took a ride with me and said I should be happy with it.

see, the thing about what mine does, is that its not like im completely losing traction...im definitely still touching the road, and the back end isnt going out on me...think of it as almost somewhat hydroplanning on a road with no water...the roads that its happened on are generally open highways with good traction, sometimes even freshly paved roads...am thinking about switching the tires regardless(my buddy with a new 997T said these were the best)...the only problem is have is that i have 20 inch rims on, instead of 19's, and my guy at the shop was finding that a lot of tires (at least for track/street use) only go up to 19. i may try those toyos though.

Hey Mike:
I'm runing very simular mods on my M6 Cab. I noticed you mention straight pipes- no resonator. Are you saying the rest of your exhuast is stock. If so, what was the effect on the sound? Louder, deeper, etc???
Thanks Dude

Thanks for the tire tip. I am running Michelin Ps2 255.30.20 and 295.25.20. I was looking for a larger diameter to match the stock diameter but could not find anything. The toyo tr1 comes in 255.35.20 and 305.30.20 that will fit just fine on my Hre's.

Reality Check
You guys are a bunch of whiners.....solving a problem that doesn't need to be solved.....
Any Honda owner would give his left nut to spin his tires in 3rd gear
J/K, mine spins all the time.

I think some of you are quite confused or I am VERY confused.
You are only losing traction in third and as you switch gears to fourth, right? Your not losing traction through all of fourth, right? If your losing traction through all of fourth there is something very wrong as aforementioned.

no, not through all of 4th, just 3rd. after the switch into 4th its perfectly fine, no traction issues at all.
