When you call sirius to set up your account they should have alerted you that you have a free year from the ID number of the radio that you gave them. The dealer really has nothing to do with it. If anything call sirius and say you were supposed to recieve a free year and give them whatever info from the unit that they need.

When I activated they offered me the aforementioned 1 year free deal. To which I replied, "is FREE the best you can do?" I was rather proud of that smart ***** response.

Needless to say, I took them up on their offer. That was about 5 months ago.

Each receiver has a unique identifyer so no it will not cross receivers. However, you can get group discount AND also you might see if they will discount a "lifetime" membership using your 1 year free from BMW. Many have done this - unfortunately I did not. I have three different receivers.
